A violent incident occurred Tuesday morning south of This City on Busseron Bottom. Authorities report a disturbing act carried out by a Black offender. No details on victims or motive released at this time.
Mrs Mary Davis was attacked by an unknown black man in Busseron bottoms, dragged into a thicket and assaulted. her husband Mil ton Davis alerted neighbors, the assailant fled toward Carlisle after the event. Authorities across Indiana towns were notified and vigil kept for the suspect named Jim, described as a negro matching a Carlisle sighting.
Mrs Davis relocated to this county about a year ago from Greene county. She was employed in huskirty corn for Austin Sinclair. Her condition is not serious despite the horrible treatment she endured.
A description seeks a man named Jim about 23 years old. He is very dark, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs around 165 pounds. He wore a light hat and black pants that were slightly short. Authorities request information leading to his identification.
A suspected same assailant who attacked Mrs Davis in Sullivan County is said to have assaulted Mrs Lemon at her home near Oaktown Knox County. The suspect overpowered her and brandished a shoe knife. Bloodhounds are on the trail as a mob stops trains to aid the search. lynching is feared.
J. Smith Talley, an Indiana operator, says money market instability after a Wall Street flurry slowed plans to form a coal trust in Clay Vigo Sullivan and Greene counties. He believes the deal is only temporarily delayed and will proceed within about thirty days.
593 acres of coal land in Cass township sold from J H Kalley and C J Sherman to J Smith Talley of Terre Haute for 22000 dollars. Sherman sold 470 acres and Talley 152 acres while retaining the top, original cost under 15 dollars per acre, coal valued at 35 dollars per acre. The deal promotes further business innovations and clothing stock improvements by J Woods and partners in Sullivan. Riggs retires to focus on other interests.

Sullivan post office reports year’s gross receipts of 6 341 and net revenue of 4 128, placing second in the district after Vincennes with 7 663. Other cities in the congressional district follow.
In Sullivan County Kansas the Hessian Fly devastates the wheat crop amid warm weather accelerating breeding. Early sown wheat appears ruined by the season’s insect surge, with historical notes tracing the fly to Hessian troops during the Revolutionary War.

Archie McClelland was seriously stabbed Saturday night by Bill McCloney who was intoxicated. It is the third time McCloney has attacked and escaped punishment. McClelland was taken to St Anthony’s hospital Sunday and faces possible lifelong injury.
Next Sunday services focus on temperance with a morning sermon reviewing Sullivan county state conditions and Indiana Baptist Convention actions. A missionary sermon is planned for the evening. A historic long house near Providence church in Turman township was relocated about half a mile from Gill township. Built 72 years ago with yellow poplar logs, it remains sound and the verbatim joints show lasting craft. Uncle Os Pinkston recalls its builder in 1830 and doubts anyone could replicate the hewn log work today.
