Sullivan County Train Trick Ends With Missing Details
Two men allegedly duped a Sullivan County farmer on the E T H passenger train last Saturday morning in a card game for money. The farmer won five dollars before the strangers fled at Sullivan, with no further word on the incident. Separately, Southern Indiana attorneys secured final right of way for the Black Hawk extension loop, about 25 miles, connecting Jasonville to Shelburn and Blackhawk, with construction to continue toward Sulivan next spring and mines along the route to come online by Jan 1.

Prominent Sullivan Doctor Coffman Dies at 75
Dr. Stewart S. Coffman longtime Sullivan physician and political figure died Sunday at his home aged 75. Born March 12 1828 in Floyd County Indiana he practiced medicine in Orleans and Sullivan later turning to horse and cattle farming. He served ten years as Democratic county chairman and represented Sullivan in the state legislature in 1872 and 1876. Survived by wife three daughters Ella Ida Mary Coffman and son Edward funeral services by the Sullivan Masonic Lodge from his home this Wednesday at 2 o'clock with interment at Center Ridge.

Mandamus Suit Set Aside for Russell Bond Hearing
The mandamus suit by E Ju Russell Auditor elect to force county commissioners to approve his $10 000 bond with Sullivan County Loan and Trust Co as surety was postponed indefinitely by Judge Harris who will appoint a special day before the January term. A favorable ruling is hinted, possibly leading to Russell demanding the office on January 1 and Mc Lang’s possible eviction suit. The October term closed with few cases left for January, including Island Levee Association suits and a $5 000 malpractice claim from Dudley Davidson of Lyons against Dr Geo A Thomas of Linton, which the jury returned a verdict for the defendant.
