Will Hays Move to Senate as Cabinet Aide Plan
From French Lick Indiana Nov 14 Indiana political figures floated a plan to have Senator New enter Harding's cabinet as postmaster general and for Will Hays to become United States senator from Indiana to finish New's term and lead the Republican national committee while remaining chairman. If McCray agrees Hays would resign the chairmanship only to assume the Senate seat two years hence. The move would keep Hays at the helm of the national committee during the four year period and avoid a party leadership fight.
