Early returns from 36 of 40 precincts in Sullivan County put Bland ahead of Bays by about 40 votes, with Bland likely to carry the county. The Republican ticket appears to have swept state offices and congressional seats, while party shifts across townships altered local majorities.
The results of yesterday's election in several townships of the county are noted, with the figure for W. J. Witl- and other candidates pending full tally. Local officials urge residents to review official canvass notices for final certified results and any runoff dates.
Unofficial tallies released this morning by Representative Bland's team show the district favoring Bland by about 2,000 to 2,200 votes. County breakdown lists Knox 600, Greene 600, Daviess 680, Martin 200, Monroe 400, Morgan 600, Owen close, Sullivan about 100 for Bays.
Representative Oscar E. Bland thanks voters in Sullivan and Knox counties after a win he says doubles his majority from two years ago. He credits united Republican, Democratic and Socialist support and pledges nonpartisan service.

Dr. T. W. Kennedy departed Thursday for Lexington Kentucky to join the U S health department after offering his services to the government. His son Barl Kennedy also left Thursday for Newcastle to work in the legal department and is in the classified service.
County Health Commissioner J. H. Neff lifted the influenza ban at midnight Saturday. Public gatherings including churches and theatres resume. The county reports many cases but believes the outbreak is now under control.
Word reached Joe Schroeder that his brother Private Carl J. Schroeder of the 231st Machine Gun Battalion was wounded in action on September 26 and is in a base hospital in England. The wounds are in his hand and not believed serious, with a return home likely as he may be deemed unfit for service after heavy fighting near Cambrai.
Cable confirms Company B 309th Ammunition Train has arrived overseas. The Sullivan boys are among the members. The unit was delayed at Halifax due to influenza. Sergeant Roy Metcalf sent the message and Sergeant E B Marlow, once seriously ill, is improving with about a dozen other men there.
John Royse McCoy left yesterday for duty in the Quartermasters Department at New Cumberland Pennsylvania. Burnett E Benn er also left yesterday for duty in the Quartermasters Department at Chicago.
Golda French, badly injured at the Shirley Hill mine two weeks ago, remains in precarious condition at a Linton hospital. Doctors say there is little hope of recovery. paralysis has left him unable to move since the accident and an operation may be required. If he survives, he will be an invalid for life. He is married with one child born after the accident. His Cincinnati parents are at his beside. he has a brother in France and is nephew to James and Don Cochran of this city.
Notice warns all Christmas boxes for soldiers abroad must be mailed by November 15 through the Red Cross Christmas Postoffice and Red Cross Shop. No parcel can be mailed without a soldier abroad issued Christmas Coupon. parcels must weigh 2 pounds 15 ounces or less unwrapped.
The local board notified the dispatch of Joseph Blaine Lacey to the officers training camp in Fremont California on November 21. Lacey, a longtime teacher and current Graysville High principal, will train there to win a commission.
David Pentland 27 a miner and Leota G Lenting 21 of R R A Sullivan obtain a license along with Charles F Peel 40 a miner and Edna Phillips 26 of Hymera. James E Sluder 33 a miner and Pearl M Moody 17 of Hymera also licensed. George W Trout 21 a Clerk of Terre Haute and Fern Robbins 21 of Carlisle Jessie Turpen 18 a miner and Dorotha M Shipman 18 of near Dugger are paired for marriage.
French C Crance challenges Gretchen Crance in a divorce action. John McColtrin appointed administrator of Charles Coltron estate pursues petition to sell real estate against Charles Coltron and other defendants.
Mrs. Amanda Johnson died at her nephew Homer Pittman’s home in Fairbanks township. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon. She was the sister of Albert Drake of the same township.
The Union lists a Jersey cow sale by Wm. W. Watson at Maplewood farm two miles northwest of Graysville on Monday November 8. It also notes a public sale at Thomas W. Crawford’s farm three miles northeast of Sullivan on Thursday November 14.
In Vincennes Indiana at 12 Noon on November 6 the Knox by 1500 precincts project forecasts Bland will carry Knox by 1500. Robert White of Sullivan Indiana sends congratulations for the effort and result.
The local draft board ordered fourteen Sullivan county men to report within five days starting November 11 for military training at Camp Wadsworth Spartansburg D C.
Mayor Henry H. Smith has been bedridden with influenza at his home and is now improving.
Rush Hunt of Moffatt Colorado, a former county resident, reports his son Ed Hunt is in service and that his entire family is in good health.
The Baldridge mine east of Far mersburg was closed last week by Vandalia Coal Co owners. Nearly 150 workers were employed there and the mine will be dismantled.

Harris, dated October and September, he details front-line conditions, cannons and caissons moved daily, rain and mud, rationing, and the brutal realities faced by dough boys. He notes cro ss-country camping compared to infantry hardship, praises the courage of Marines and engineers, and laments casualties and the grim toll of gas and shells.
