John Arnett and C. C. Jennings were killed or fatally burned after being struck by a train. Arnett was run down by a train and Jennings sustained dangerous burns in the same incident.
Two people died in separate Saturday incidents. John Arnett, 85, was struck and killed by a northbound freight on the C. and E. I. near Greer Wilkinson yards. C. C. Jennings, meat dealer on East Washington Street, was fatally burned at home while lighting a coal oil stove and died after hospital treatment.
Hurley Godfrey versus Monon Coal Company seeks damages. B F Goodrich Company sues Edgar Crowder on account. Bessie M Snyder sues Claude M Snyder for divorce. Hix W Davis versus John J Robertson and Minnie Robertson concerns foreclosure of a mechanics lien.
Assessors in Sullivan County submitted 1912 personal and poll figures to County Assessor Hiatt. Fairbanks township delayed due to smallpox. Townships show varying changes, including significant gains in Cass and Gill townships and losses in Jefferson and Turman townships.
Washington reports from the census bulletin that Indiana farm values surged from 1900 to 1910. Average land value per farm rose from 3099 to 6164 dollars, with total farm property up to 8396 dollars and acres widening to 98.8. Carlisle May 28 The Carlisle school board selects teachers for the next term re employing most from the current staff. Principal Foley departs and Childress and Stoddard retire from teaching. Assigned are Greist Stoddard Ely for high school and Giboney McCammon Botts Colton Willis for grades with three vacancies to fill before term opens.
Sullivan baseball team defeated Shelbun 15 to 6 in a Sunday game at Coffman’s Park. Sullivan dominated early and built a commanding lead, with strong pitching and timely hitting sealing the victory.

Alfred Jacobson a Keller miner convicted of wire desertion was taken to the reformatory at Jeffersonville by Deputy Sheriff Ed Kelley Friday night. He faces an indeterminate term of one to three years.

Mrs. Cassie Buzard of Stager Illinois is visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. George W. Buff near Merom.
Bloomington, May 28. A question arises whether a voter not registered under the new Indiana law can sign a saloon remonstrance as Rena Brisenden seeks a license in Bloomington's Second Ward. Brissenden’s attorney argues only registered voters may sign, potentially denying a majority for the license. The issue will go to the board of commissioners, then likely to the circuit court and possibly the supreme court.
A piano recital by Mrs. R. W. Cadwell’s pupils played Saturday afternoon to a good turnout. The Haddorf grand piano enhanced the program and the younger students were aided by Miss Etta Lovelace and Miss Margaret Park. The next recital is set for Saturday afternoon June 8 and all are invited.

Farmersburg Indiana May 28 relatives gathered at Clem Fidlar home for the Gobin family reunion. The twelve living Gobin children were joined by about 100 attendees as baskets and a big noon dinner were shared. Two members were absent S P Gobin of Terre Haute and Mrs Julia Duncan of Peach Orchard Arkansas.
Logan Esarey recounts the uncle of W A Foote Doctor Winthrop Foote and brother Ziba Foote, both Eli’s sons. Ziba drowned while swimming Gibson County lake. Doctor Foote came to Palestine in 1818, moved to Bedford in 1825, was Yale trained M Q and famed healer. He ordered a rock vault for his and Ziba’s remains with two stone blocks and a twelve foot obelisk overlooking Blue Hollow, a mix of history and romance in Lawrence County. His epitaph hints at peace and charity.
The divorce suit of Elmira McCoy against Isaac McCoy of Farmersburg was dismissed. The restraining order blocking Farmersburg Bank and the Peoples Bank from paying out funds was dissolved.
Miss Hazel Wolfe daughter of Mr and Mrs Sol T Wolfe of Colorado Springs formerly of this city married last Wednesday to Fred Harrington of Denver They plan to reside in Colorado Springs
The state board of education action affects only teachers license requirements in Indiana and not the college’s preparatory or college work. Four to five students are affected, a small number given the college’s enrollment history, with no impact on normal college activities.

New Lebanon May 28 Memorial services for the M W A and R N A camps will be held at the M E church Sunday afternoon June 2 with Rev Caylor delivering the address. Sullivan Mensingers will provide music and all members are asked to march in a procession from Woodmen hall to the church then to Camp Ground cemetery.
Shelburn May 28 Thursday afternoon Miss Alvada Lane drove her father's car when it skidded while passing Phil Pennas car of Jackson Hill. Both machines were damaged in the collision.
