John C. Chaney of Sullivan gave the nominating speech as Indiaman was named moderator. The event highlighted local political processes and featured Chaney presenting the candidate lineup and platform details during the meeting.
Dr. Charles Little of Wabash Indiana won the Moderatorship of the General Assembly at the hundred twenty second annual Presbyterian convention on the Steel Pier Atlantic City after a close three-way vote. He led on ballots and received a majority of 157 over Alexander. Col J C Chaney of Wabash was praised during the process as a notable opponent. The Steel Pier venue houses 10,000 and closes on May 26.
The Sullivan circuit court May term opens next Monday with a high profile murder case State v John Van Honck for the James Martin Rel iance mine killing. Civil suits include VanCamp Hardware v Ferguson and a long running McGowan v Sullivan town contract case. Lydia Huffman sues William Huffman for maintenance seeking 1652 dollars filed across multiple counties.
Alva Skinner, charged with operating a blind tiger in a boat near the Narrows, remains in jail awaiting trial.
Memorial events honor soldiers in Sullivan Farmersburg New Lebanon and Hymera posts. Rev J W Neyman will address at the Christian Tabernacle before the Grand Army post and Relief corps proceed to Center Ridge Cemetery to decorate graves.
May 29 memorial services at the Methodist church at 10:09 am with Rev Jelon Furrs delivering the sermon. Post members, W R C, and children will decorate soldiers graves, then parade to the church for exercises, songs, readings, solos, drills, and a flag drill by 24 children.
In Farmersburg on May 24 the memorial sermon is set for 3 PM at the Methodist church preached by Rev. S J Shake. Soldiers should gather at the G A R hall at 2 30 PM under M A Jennings to march in. Nye's Chapel hosts Decoration Day with Hon A G McNabb of Sullivan delivering the address and others speaking. Residents offer to furnish dinner for soldiers and spouses.
Hymera May 24 details for Decoration day include songs led by W. J. Williams a prayer by Rev D J Ryan solo by Daisy McAnally chorus of 100 children recitation by Mrs Mary Van Arsdail additional solos by Goldie Turner address by Rev J A Ward and a songs quartet with Harry Woodrow W J Williams Mrs J C Woodrow and Dora Beckett followed by appointed committees.

Merom May 24 commencement exercises were held in the Union Christian college auditorium. Seven graduates received diplomas from County Superintendent Park. Attorney Fred F. Bays of Sullivan delivered the address on "The Silent Battles of Life." Two college student quartets sang, and Miss Alia Thompson gave a reading.
Barton R. Lucas a Sullivan native died Saturday at his Bedford home after months of illness He was born May 21 1835 in Floyd County and lived in Sullivan most of his life He served in the 13th Indiana Battery in 1861 and later held roles as Sullivan marshal and fire department engineer He is survived by his wife two sons John and William H Lucas and a daughter Mrs Cora Erwin Funeral held at W H Lucas residence with broader Masonic services at Center Ridge cemetery
Jas Lamont of 30 North French street was found guilty Friday of provoking Miss Lizzie Crawford of 532 West Washington street. In the Squire J H Huntwork court at Farmersburg he was fined five dollars and costs. The horse of the prosecuting witness wandered into Theodore Powell’s yard where Lamont worked. he allegedly called her vile names when asked if he drove the horse in. Gilbert Gambill represented Lamont. Deputy Prosecutor Bedwell State.
Chalmer Willis of the east side was arrested by Chief Henry Smith on bootlegging charges. The arrest followed a court inquiry where Mort Lockwood confessed to buying a half pint of liquor from Willis and swore to it. Willis is linked to Albert Nichols who allegedly sold whiskey and was found seriously ill from drinking it, prompting Lob's arrest.

Hud McClung a former Sullivan resident died Sunday afternoon at his home in Terre Haute after an extended stomach illness. He was 42, born in Jefferson Township and married with one daughter Gladys. Survived by wife and daughter, he was a brick contractor, former Sullivan town council member, and a member of the Sullivan lodge of Odd Fellows. Funeral services were held at the Terre Haute residence Monday afternoon and burial was in Highland Lawn cemetery.
John D. Lamb, Civil War veteran and longtime city resident, died Sunday afternoon at his son N. B. Lamb’s home at 509 East Jackson Street. He was 69, survived by two sons N. B. and Floyd, and his wife had died ten years earlier. He was a G A R member and Christian church member, once a supervisor of bridges for the E and T H railroad. Funeral Monday at the son’s residence, Rev J M Vawter officiating. burial at Center Ridge.
The Carlisle high school class of 19 graduates received diplomas from Supt. E. L. Helt after an address by former DePauw University president John P. D. John on the topic After High School What. The service was in the Methodist church with blue and gold decor and Locke-Thomas orchestra providing music. A dance for 109 couples followed at Pilmer Ridgeway hall.
The Sullivan high school held commencement Friday at the Christian tabernacle before a record audience. Eighty eight graduates received diplomas from Superintendent Holton and Principal BE C Snarr. Prof. Nathaniel Butler of Chicago University gave the address on present day ideals in education praising Indiana's system.

Fourteen year old Tony Sadowski, son of Antonio Sadowski, helped assessors in Cass, Jackson, Curry and Hamilton list hundreds of dollars on county tax duplicates. He speaks Russian, Polish and English, and was born near Warsaw. His work targets foreign residents and improves accuracy of tax rolls.
James R. Boles, known as Nippy, a vaudeville actor, died Friday night at his home 6238 North Watson after spinal meningitis and consumption. Survived by wife and sister Mrs North Worley and writers Hardin and Russell. Funeral at Holiness Christian church Sunday conducted by Rev W S Jewell. Interment Center Ridge.
Henderson Edwards the county’s oldest resident died Wednesday at his son Simp son Edwards' home near Merom. He was 94. Burial was set for Thursday at Burnett Cemetery.

Pleasantville May 24 Uncle John Enochs one of the county s pioneer residents died Friday at his home aged over 93. Born January 14 1817 in Floydsburg Kentucky he moved to Indiana with his parents and then settled near Pleasantville where he remained. He leaves nineteen grandchildren thirty great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Uncle John recalls a Knox county meeting where 31 people were converted in warm weather at a barn used as a church before there were proper congregations. He praises Rev Bartlett as the greatest exhorter he heard and notes long travel to attend the gathering.
