Aged Sullivan Citizen Jefferson Abell Dies at 83
Jefferson Abell longtime Sullivan resident and exemplary citizen died at home on South Main Street of heart failure. Born in 1844 in Kentucky he lived in Sullivan over fifty years, worked as a carpenter and stair builder, served on the town board and belonged to St Marys Catholic Church. He is survived by wife Mary Fowler son Frank Abell granddaughter Mrs James Scully and two great granddaughters. Burial was at Center Ridge Cemetery.

Man Pays Long Overdue Rent After 35 Years
Perry Joslin of near Prairie Creek in Vigo county paid Mrs. William G Borders $40 in cash on Thursday claiming it is rent owed to her deceased husband for land he once owned near Prairie Creek where he was a tenant. Borders knew nothing of the claim beyond her husband’s former ownership in Vigo county.

Miner Crushed by Rock at Green Valley Mine
Carl Burcher aged 30 was killed instantly when a falling stone trapped him at noon Friday in the Green Valley mine a mile west of Jasonville. Six men freed the area but he died before surfacing. He was from Coalmont and survived by his widow an infant son Barney and his sister Mrs Cora Thomas of Clay City along with his parents.

John T. Lindsay, 69, a well known Jefferson township farmer, died Monday morning at his home near Pleasantville from cancer after a two year illness. Funeral services were held at Dog Island church with burial in the church cemetery. Survived by his widow and ten children: Thomas and Otis Lindsay of Bloomington, Mrs. William T. Suthard, Jacob Lindsay of New Lebanon, and Dexter, Dewey, Joseph, Richard, Victoria and Nellie at home.
