May Tervw Circuit Court Begins Monday
The May term of the Sullivan circuit court opened Monday with Judge W H Bridwell presiding. Jurors report next Monday. The trial of James Corby Howe for the murder of Arlie Duckworth and Charles Irwith at Wilifred on May 18th is set to begin Monday morning May 22. Howe remains in jail. his attorney is Gilbert W Gambill as funds prevent hiring additional counsel.

Beard Lease Case Set for Oral Argument in Indiana Court

Murder near Twenty Seventh Street shock in Terre Haute
Doris Boston an 18 year old girl died from a gunshot while Sidney Metcalf 56 suffered scalp wounds after a shooting incident on Dean Avenue near Twenty Seventh Street. Charles A Deal and William Martin, both held on suspicion of murder, disputed who fired the fatal shot as witnesses gave conflicting accounts. The event began after insults to Doris Boston prompted Metcalf to pursue the suspects. bullets struck Doris and Metcalf, leading to a violent struggle. The body was sent to Lewis Indiana for burial with services to be held at a church there.

Death Comes Sudden to Merom Citizen Henry H Shidler
Henry H Shidler a Merom resident and Civil War veteran died suddenly Monday afternoon while mowing on his family lot in the Merom cemetery. He was 75 and had long worked in Merom as a merchant and postmaster. He came to Merom in 1860s from Madison County and later graduated Union Christian College. He left four daughters and was married to Sarah Stanier who preceded him in death. Funeral at the college chapel today at 2:30 conducted by Rev C B Hershey. burial in Merom cemetery.

County Commissioners Revoke Liquor License in Jackson Township
On petition of John Funkhouser the Jackson township liquor license held by James Corby Howe at Willfred was revoked effective May 1. Howe, jailed awaiting trial for a Willfred saloon murder, saw the saloon closed since the incident. The board accepted Constable Charles Lowery's resignation and named Herschel Wence as his replacement. Clifton Piercy received a new license for a saloon in Jackson township near Lewis.
