Curious Carpet Made From Cattle Hair In Sullivan County
A small carpet fragment, gifted to the State museum by Cr Akin of Sullivan county, is spun from cattle hair gathered at a Sullivan county tanyard. The piece, woven with hair of varied colors, was crafted by Mrs Wm Ledgerwood in the closing days of Martin Van Buren's presidency and remained on the floor after Harrison's 1841 inauguration. The spinner, now elderly, is alive and well.
