A local representative interviews a county physician about a proposed County Hospital. The doctor argues it would save money for families, improve diagnosis and care, and could be self sustaining with community support and equal access for all doctors.
Mrs Mary Behem aged 77 of Jefferson township died at home last Thursday due to apo plexy. She was mother of Allen Behem formerly of this place now in Terre Haute and Lewellyn Behem of this city. Funeral services were held at Bethany and burial followed in the adjacent cemetery.

Homer Davis a 76 year old Carlisle resident and Civil War veteran took carbolic acid at his home Saturday morning after long blindness. His wife detected the poison and a physicianCould not help. Survived by wife and three sons Otto Richard H and Charles C. Funeral at the residence Monday afternoon conducted by Rev Mullins of the Christian church.
Claude Watts won a $750.00 settlement in circuit court from Peabody-Alwert Coal Co for the loss of a leg after being kicked off a tail chain by a mule at the Reliance mine as a car passed over his leg necessitating amputation.
Mrs. Allen Pate of Bloomfield, who had been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Roy Good, has returned home.
William Bresh an ex convict employed at the Atlas mine was arrested Saturday on a charge of criminal assault on his eight year old daughter at Washington. He was taken to Washington immediately after his arrest. There was excitement at the mine when the arrest became known. Indications are that Bresh will receive a life sentence in prison.
Prof. and Mrs. L. McDonald and family of Denver stay with Ed Coffman in Curry township while visiting J. W. McDonald. Former principal of the Shelbyburn schools and eight years at the University of Colorado, he now heads to New York to teach mathematics at Columbia University.
Complications arise in the Thomas P. Cooper estate of Merom after his death by a horse last spring. The matter will be settled in the circuit court on September 1. Widow Ella Cooper is administratrix. the will names Charles Cooper, a brother, as administrator.
Watermelon and cantaloupe crops show good conditions for the season with markets expected soon. Shipping likely to begin in late July as cantaloupes reach the market.
Wheat harvest in the county starts this week with about one third of a normal crop. Grain dealers cite hard winter and a wet fall as the causes for the reduced acreage and yields.
William T. Murdock of west of the city returned from a visit at Allendale and Mt. Carmel Illinois He visited Thomas Bland and family at Mt. Carmel who formerly resided in this county.
Edward Roberts, a Terre Haute negro wanted for shooting Hiram Flowers, was arrested Sunday morning by Chief Henry Smith after being cornered near the C I and E I station. He yielded to a revolver, was guarded by James H Willis, and transported back to Terre Haute on the ten o'clock interurban. Roberts had ridden the seven o clock car into town and aimed to catch a southbound train.
James H. Chaney of Hymera faced a $200 bond forfeiture in circuit court. On Friday both Britton and Chaney appeared and agreed to a new bond, raised to $250. Chaney claimed his Terre Haute attorney failed to sign and contact him.
John G. Wooley former Prohibition party presidential candidate will deliver an address in Sullivan on July 3 in support of county option.
Charles Pental, a foreigner at Kettle Creek near Sherburn, started a riot Monday afternoon with a revolver. He was struck on the head by another foreigner. Six participants are jailed locally.
C C Schlichter of this city, long a Union supporter, has recovered after eight weeks of illness. He recalled nearly missing the vote for Lincoln in 1860 by about a month, voted for Lincoln in 1864 at New Orleans, and has supported Republican candidates since. A Civil War veteran, he served nearly five years in the 56th Ohio Infantry and took part in ten major battles.
Hugh Giles purchased the residence of Winfield Wolfe on West Washington Street and plans improvements. Mr. Wolfe will move to Terre Haute.

Charles C. Riggs sues Douglas Patton for libel after Patton claimed Riggs was involved in a robbery visit four miles north west of town. Patton alleges two masked men robbed him and forced a deed, while Riggs says libel damages his reputation and business.
Miss Carrie Yeager cooperative observer for the county reports the week ending June 28: dates show mostly cloudy days with temperatures ranging from 53 to 78. Total rainfall noted includes 0.21 inches on the 17th, 0.20 on the 18th, and 0.50 inches on the 21st.
The county clerk works on transcripts for cases appealed to the Supreme Court including Jackson Hill Coal & Coke Company versus Board of County Commissioners on tax refunds and Dan Voshell versus John Roark for possession and damages. Knox county trial concluded with a verdict for the plaintiff. Also N. O. Robbins versus Ed H. Reed among ongoing settlements.
Frank Osburn aged 83, a longtime Sullivan resident and carpenter, died Friday night from general debility. He had lived in the county most of his life.

Mr and Mrs Jacob Mahley have moved to the Stratton residence on Section street. James Sinclair who purchased the Mahley property will occupy it as soon as some repairs are completed.
