Indiana tax study shows farm land bears under 35 percent of statewide taxes while cities pay about double. The shift to urban and industrial growth reduces farm burden to roughly one fifth to one quarter, with real estate outside cities paying about 30 percent. Comparisons include 238 percent Indiana farm land increase versus higher gains in Michigan Illinois North Dakota and others.

Tressa A. Goodwin, a blind resident living with her mother north of Sullivan, filed a voluntary bankruptcy petition in the federal court at Indianapolis. Debts total 277.30 with no assets. The Sullivan horse shoe league and families gathered at City park for a day of picnics and play. Prairie Creek teams entered strong with 322 points to Sullivan’s 853, giving Sullivan a 32 point edge. Robert Vanhorn aged 76, long time Turman township farmer, died Friday at St. Anthony's hospital in Terre Haute from diabetes. He lived in Prairieton at death after moving from Merom. Services were Sunday at Graysville Methodist Church, led by Rev. L L Johnson, with burial in Mann cemetery. He leaves a widow and a daughter, Mrs. Kate Calhoun of Terre Haute.

A series of public band concerts starts Thursday evening, June 25, organized by a city committee representing the Community Club. The city band has been reorganized to oversee the events and coordinate the performances.

Don Holwerda star Purdue basketball player has signed to coach and teach at Sullivan Indiana starting next fall. He will coach basketball baseball and track and oversee the manual training department at Sullivan high school. George R. Dutton Nearly Succumbs to Gas Fumes
George R. Dutton of Peoples State Bank suffered a near fatal episode from natural gas fumes in his brother H. E. Duttons bathroom. He collapsed after leaving the tub and was found unconscious by his brother an hour later. A doctor treated him and he remained in bed for two days recovering.

Vincennes dispatch says victims of the Oaktown box car explosion are identified. Police report Thomas Dean alias Martin Raggerty alias Wm Burns and Collins alias Bluff Shorty are linked to prior robberies and prison terms. Dean died. Collins was injured.

A Monday dawn fire in Merom started in the Pinkston pool hall and spread to four adjacent businesses including Frank Burke restaurant Clarence Beaver barber shop and Armour Cream Station. Firefighters prevented spread to nearby homes with damages estimated at six thousand dollars and insurance partially covering losses. Police cite possible arson or robbery as the cause.

Receives Box of Oranges From Niece in California
Col. R. F. Knotts receives a box of choice California oranges from his niece Mrs. W. A. Pingham of East Whittier California. The Knotts brothers Robert F William and James served in the Civil War. In 1866 James and William ran the old McGuire hotel opposite the post office on Washington and Section streets. Death of World War Veteran James Jewell
James Jewell, World War veteran, died Monday at the home of Mr and Mrs William Nugent in Shelburn from consumption contracted in service. He is survived by his widow. Elks Plan Major Expansion of Lodge Auditorium

Fire damages in Jasonville store district
A Jasonville fire on Main Street caused about 50 000 dollars in damage to the Why store and adjoining tenants. Tragedy at Knox Ferry Claims Oaktown Girl
Edith Blynn of Oaktown was crushed to death when she rode in a truck near the Petersburg ferry in Knox county. Roy Hunt and Charles McElroy, driving for Sam Woodsmall, hauled two loads of household goods for Martin Myles bound for Petersburg. The girl and two others had asked to ride along while the trucks were stopped at Oaktown.
