Mrs Susan A Liston a 100 year old resident of Old Liston Homestead died yesterday afternoon at the Liston homestead after a long illness. Survived by family and friends in the county. Funeral arrangements pending with local undertaker.
Susan A. Liston, longtime Sullivan County resident and oldest local inhabitant, died at her home aged 99 or near it. Funeral set for Thursday at Palmer's Frame Christian church with burial in the church cemetery. The obituary recalls her birth in 1824, life across Indiana and Illinois migrations, eight children, and descendants, plus notes on her Civil War era role and community prominence.
The county board of review opened a forty-day session Friday at the office of William Williamson, county assessor. It will consider assessments on personal property, improvements and corporate property. Members include George McNabb, J. L. Shake, J. Harve Thompson, Frank M. Daniels and William Williamson.

Age 85, Mrs Lydia E Brown died yesterday at 2 am at her daughter’s home on South State Street. A Catholic, funeral Mass will be held at St John’s village church St Marys with burial in St Marys cemetery. Survived by daughters Mrs Frank Abell and Mrs Albert Thralls.
The University of Illinois commencement will be in Urbana on June 11. Sullivan County students listed include Sarah Almeda Reed and Ralph Langdon Thompson of this city and Georgia Clarene Willis of Carlisle.
Attendance in Turman township Sunday schools was reported with totals for Graysville 97 Union 96 Dodds Bridge 54 Big Springs 32 Mt. Tabor 29 Providence 25. The brief item lists each location's turnout and notes Sunday school participation.
James Fidlar, 64, died at his Paxton home Saturday night from paralysis. Survived by his widow and three daughters. Funeral Monday afternoon at the Church of Christ in Paxton with Rev. Roberts officiating. Burial at Providence Cemetery.
Sul livan Post American Legion held its second annual fish fry at Eagle Island near Riverton drawing nearly four hundred soldiers and guests. Algie Whitney led food service with chicken and fish, a boxing card and battle royal thrilled attendees, while Vincennes and Sullivan quartettes performed.
William Mitch of Terre Haute, secretary of the Mine Workers District No. 11, will be the principal speaker at the Community Club meeting and dinner at the Baptist church tomorrow evening. A special program has been arranged.
Jerry McDade was arrested Friday by Deputy Sheriffs Collins and Douthitt on a charge of failing to pay support money and for child desertion. He had been working in Chicago and came here to visit relatives at Mildred.
Squire John TF. Watson, a Civil War veteran and well known resident, suffered a light stroke last week and is improving from its effects.
At a New York dinner Will Hays recounted a humorous post office anecdote. A handsome village postmaster cashed a money order for a pretty girl and read a penciled margin message claiming love and a dozen kisses. He delivered three dozen kisses, prompting the girl to tell her mother of the generous government.
Frederic Stewart wins weekly book and author contest with twelve correct answers. John William Woner, thirteen, tops thirteen quizzes with twelve correct, earned five dollar prize. Constance Mankedick Paul Stewart Mabel Scott among high scorers. quotes from Plato and Plutarch emphasize reading in childhood.

On the first day of June friends gathered in Turman township to mark W R McKinley birthday anniversary. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Frank Springer and daughters C H Ridgeway Mr and Mrs Harold Weir Mr and Mrs Harry Karns and son Mr and Mrs Bruce Coppage and daughter Mr and Mrs Walter Weir. Refreshments of ice cream cake strawberries bananas and oranges were served. All departed wishing many happy returns.
Miss Etta Lovelace of this city and Albert Little of Flat Rock were married this afternoon at the Christian parsonage by Rev. Hoffman. They plan to reside on Mr Little’s farm near Flat Rock. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Hilla Lovelace and has taught music here for several years.
The Dugger area sees the institute of Dugger Lodge No. 721 with John M. Sweeney, postmaster, named Worshipful Master of the new lodge.
The Epworth League of Union Chapel church Graysville invites everyone to an ice cream social Saturday evening June 9 on the church lawn.

Benjamin Harry Boles, 32, a noted city painter, died at the county hospital Sunday from complications of diseases after being admitted Friday and undergoing an operation. The funeral was held yesterday at Billman funeral home with Rev. R. W. Hoffman officiating. Burial followed at Center Ridge cemetery. Survived by his widow.
The Union Christian College at Merom closed its commencement today with a speech by Dr. Lucian E. Follarishee of Des Moines Indiana. The baccalaureate address was given Sunday evening by President W. S. Alexander.
Willis Jackson Pirtle and Betty Ade line Frisbee from Merom Indiana received a marriage license. James Franklin Watts and Mildred Servison from Robinson Illinois were granted licenses. Elmer R. Lackey and Dora Cruse from Tory Illinois also obtained licenses.
