Massive Jasonville Fire Destroys Eight Blocks and Kills Man

A Friday afternoon blaze in Jasonville wiped out six business and two residence blocks, causing losses over 300000 and one death. John Hughes, 50, a teamster, died after a falling wall and dynamite was used to halt the flames. Water supply failures hampered efforts as 25 families became homeless and many buildings lost stock. Firefighters and volunteers faced dangerous conditions with live wires and belated water pressure from a distant source.
