Joseph S Reed retires after more than forty years in the Reed and Batey drug and piano business in Sullivan. He sells his interest to partner Charles F Batey who began as a clerk over twenty years ago and has been a partner for ten years. Reed, born sixty years ago in Fairbanks township, came to Sullivan in 1872 and built a storied career with Crowder Bros and later Crowder Reed. He will remain a resident and continue collecting natural history specimens for local schools.

Narrow Escape In Wabass River Drowning Attempt
Floyd and Elbert Ellis sons of Mr and Mrs James Ellis nearly drowned while swimming at a sand bar in the Wabass near Narrows. Elbert dove into deep current and could not fight it off.
