Nother producer on Dix Farm estimates a daily yield of about fifty barrels, signaling strong potential for the operation. Government records and local reports cite steady demand and favorable market prices.
The Kennedy Oil Company moved its rig to new oil territory in Hamilton township. A well drilled on Safe Jix farm last Wednesday drew about 200 observers and is estimated to produce fifty barrels, considered better than the first by W. T. Dix. Wells on Boyer and Carishers farms remain undrilled.
A bridge on the Illinois Central railroad near the station caught fire Saturday afternoon. Local children reported the blaze to agent Mr. Small, and a bucket brigade with station staff extinguished the flames. The bridge is too badly damaged to repair and will require a new construction.
Dombey Mayfield, longtime associate of Donnelly & Steel haberdashery, has purchased a half stake in the Milton Sibley tailoring business signaling a new partnership.
Edward M. Anders a Mt Carmel railroad employee married Miss Ethel May Adams of Graysville on Thursday morning. The bride is sixteen and the groom twenty two.
Graysville reports funeral guests for Mrs. Flora Myres at Dark Bend Illinois. Lansberry Riggs of Fairbanks did business in the village. Uncle Return Turman held a Mann Grove family reunion with most children present. Rev. Harry Kissner preached at the Methodist church. Wheat threshing continues. squirrels are ripe and locals bag a few.
A spark from Mc Dowall Wyman’s threshing machine on Mrs Amelia Goodwins farm north of the city ignited a straw stack on Monday. The engineer quickly detached his belt and pulled the separator away, likely saving the stack from total destruction.
Dr and Mrs J J Parker of M erom with Mrs Parker s sister Miss Lucy Clark of Chicago and Miss Ruth Wells depart tonight for New Albany and Louisville to attend the annual meeting of the democratic editorial association They will also be guests of Tom Taggart at French Lick
The Sullivan branch of the Young Men's Christian Association elects officers including President Russell Thompson and Vice President Ralph Strawn. other officers named are Secretary Homer Tate Assistant Secretary William Jamison Treasurer Claude Howard and Chaplain Lester Brattain.
The Rush Trimble et al. suit against Carlisle Haddon township seeks an injunction to halt a joint Carlisle building. Judge Bridwell dissolved the temporary injunction last week. Transcript preparation for the appeal proceeds. Hunt case transcript filed with the Supreme Court.
George C. Liston 73, former Sullivan County Water Co. employee, was fatally injured in a fist fight near a saloon at First and Eagle streets. His assailant, George Morney, is jailed on assault and battery and faces murder charges if Liston dies. Morney was arrested after逃 the altercation as police pursued him. Liston had accused Morney of misconduct toward Mrs Morney and her daughter.
The Odd Fellows of the county announce an all day rally to be held in this city in September. The exact date is not fixed. Visiting lodges will confer the degrees. Grand Master Carpenter and the Rebekah Assembly president will attend.
Mrs Hattie Mills 27 of Caledonia was shot Monday afternoon by 15 year old William Sargent who handled a 32 caliber rifle that discharged. Doctors Billman and Neil treated the wound described as just below the left breast and under the heart, not dangerous unless infection develops. Mrs Mills is married to Harry Mills, a mine boss. Sargent is the son of the late George Sargent of Shelburn and was living with the Mills family.
Leroy Land, 59, of Haddon township, escaped Woodmere Asylum near Evansville Wednesday and was arrested Sunday at his nephew George Land’s home south of Riverton by Deputy Sheriff Hale. Returned to the asylum Monday by Deputy Douthitt. Land, a former trusty, walked most of the way from Evansville and has been in the asylum three times.
Floyd Weaver fifteen was arrested Tuesday morning at Hymera by Marshal Steward on suspicion of involvement in robberies at Hymera Shelburn and Fairbanks. He is the son of George Weaver a Hymera coal miner. Weaver was jailed here yesterday amid tips from Roy Payton another Hymera boy held on similar suspicion.
A fire this morning at five o'clock damaged the southeast corner residence owned by Squire Patton at Graysville and Cross streets. Occupant Henry Stitt saw the roof and upper floor burn while Jess Burnett’s stored household goods were destroyed. The lower part suffered little damage.
All Epworth Leagues in the county will hold an all day picnic on Merom Bluff July 10. Representatives from all parts of the county are expected to attend.
Hutsonville July 8 A Rob inson restaurant waitress Mary Anderson 18 was swept from a sand bar while bathing after the Hutsonville Fourth of July celebration. Rescued briefly after being swept downstream she returned to swift water and disappeared. Her body recovered two hours later in about four feet of water.
The Washington Democrat reports Candace and Mae Pugh, former Sullivan girls, are appointed district managers for Indiana Business Colleges. They take over from J. E. Castor and will oversee schools in Washington and Vincennes. The sisters remain based locally with Vincennes teachers kept. They are noted as the state’s only woman district managers of business colleges.
Harry B. Rich, eldest son of Constable O. R. Rich, arrived Monday evening to assume charge at the Western Union telegraph office in Sullivan. He comes highly recommended and aims to provide the best service. Miss Hazel Bay, previously in charge, transfers to Culver, Ind.
The Kappa Kappa Kappa sorority held a Wednesday meeting with Miss Juanita Bailey and Miss Lena Pratt of Dalton Massachusetts present. Officers elected for the year include Mrs. Lee F Bays president Glenn Leach vice president Verne Chaney corresponding secretary Lois Stewart recording secretary Geneva Gambill treasurer Marie Russell press correspondent.
Eliza J. Dudley wife of Ran som Dudley died Sunday night after a long illness at age seventy. A native of the county she was previously married to William Brown and is survived by her husband and three sons Ed George and William Brown. Funeral held Tuesday afternoon at the residence led by Rev. G W Titus with burial at Center Ridge.
County commissioners authorize the ministerial association to hold union services in the courthouse park each Sunday evening in July and August. Prof Starbuck to direct an orchestra, John Taylor to lead singing, with Rev George W Titus of the Christian church delivering the first sermon.
Saturday afternoon two men in a wagon stole a roll of new carpet from Edsil Bostick's North Section street residence. A neighbor saw them depart but assumed the Bosticks were home, so no alarm was raised.
Hamilton Oil & Gas Company plans to drill two wells on Jamison farm holdings west of the city. The contract for the work was awarded to Claude Thompson of Oakland City.
The Sullivan Mill and Elevator Company received its largest wheat load of the year from Zibe Shields farm north of town. The shipment weighed 103 bushels and 50 pounds and was paid at 82 cents per bushel.
Charles Stanley, arrested after a twelve hour chase, faces kidnapping charges in Terre Haute based on statements by Marion Deal, the boy arrested with him. Vigo deputies plan further questioning. Deal’s father pushes the kidnapping case. Evidence includes a note and a found boy’s outfit linking Stanley to the alleged abduction.
Postmaster William E. Aydelotte reports that regular stamps will replace parcel post stamps for government use. The Sullivan office has exhausted its two cent parcel post stamps.
E. E. Watts a Princeton surveyor was arrested last week by Constable O R Rich on a board bill charge brought by Gus Arnett of Carlisle. He pleaded guilty before Justice Robert Calvert and paid a fine plus costs totaling 21 dollars.
County Recorder John Moore received the new farm register and will register Sullivan county estate names. Several farmers have adopted farm names but none have yet applied to copyright or register their farm names.
Shelburn merchants tested two Vincennes bloodhounds by staging robberies at MecCracklin's saloon and The Enterprise office and paying the dogs to follow a trail. The dogs failed to locate any lead while the alleged culprits who staged the test were present among the crowd.
Vincennes report says a Sullivan Indiana man failed to appear after obtaining a marriage license and arranging a July Fourth wedding plan. Police were asked to arrest the missing groom with local officials noting the man left for too much holiday celebration. Court records show licenses issued to Homer McDaniels and Ella Powers.
The Farmersburg Oil Company is formed by W. F. Huffman of Lawrenceville Illinois to lease and drill lands nearby. Three wells planned. Leases on 1200 acres south west of Farmersburg extend toward the Shelburn oil field with Wes Forbes and Frank Fortney securing rights from Reed schoolhouse toward Shelburn.

Harry Carty son of Mr and Mrs S O Carty died Friday after a brief illness with typhoid fever and pneumonia. He resided in Sullivan work as a miner. He is survived by his wife and three children. Funeral held Saturday at Calvary church with Rev Clive McGuire officiating. Interment in Calvary cemetery.
Dugger July 8 Postmaster L E Chowning receives official notice he was confirmed by the Senate on June 28. Chowning has served two years and during his tenure the office advanced from fourth to third class.
Miss Carrie Yeager reports a cooperative weather week ending July 6 with high temperatures from 83 to 97 and lows from 65 to 73. Conditions varied from part cloudy to clear with .23 inches of rainfall on the 1st.
A 76th birthday reunion for Return J Turman of Turman township was held Sunday at Mann's grave. About 92 relatives and friends attended. Turman family numbered 42 present with Walter Turman and his Marshall Illinois family absent.
Trustee W. J. Cooper buys a three stand water system for Merom school and one for New Lebanon school. The Chautauqua Association buys a six stand system for the Chautauqua grounds.

Hymera July 8 Roy Payton 22 of this place was arrested Friday afternoon at his sister's home in Clinton on suspicion of the recent Hymera robberies. Marshal Steward of Hymera made the arrest. Payton a miner, single, has lived here years and previously bore a good reputation. He deserted from the army once and was returned but later received an honorable discharge. He is in the county jail at Sullivan. Investigations into the Shelburn and Fairbanks robberies will follow while he is held.
An explosion from a coal oil stove at Rev. W. S. Jewell’s residence destroyed the house. Jewell was oil covered and his hat burned, which his daughter Bessie quickly extinguished. Fire alarm failure caused delays. only a small portion of furniture was saved and insurance partially covers the loss. A flying ember also damaged N. S. Worley’s house, saved by prompt fire department action.
Bud Martin well known carpenter of North Court street was struck by a car driven by George Hubble of Carlisle while behind a drag wagon late Saturday. He was unconscious with three broken ribs and hip injury. Dr. T W Kenned attended.
The ministerial committee has arranged for Rev. Thomas C McNary of Richmond Indiana to preach at the Presbyterian church next Sunday morning. Everyone is invited to attend.
Dr. Durham and Lee Phillips took a business trip to Sullivan on Monday. Paula Shores of Hutsonville visits her sister Mrs Minnie Watson this week. Big Springs Threshing Company started its machine at Tom Medsker’s Monday. Steve Newlin and family of Hutsonville visited relatives here Sunday. Tesla and Ava Haines of Sullivan visited Ruth and Pearl Dutfer over Sunday. Numerous local families shared a Friday evening gathering with Mr and Mrs Emerson Watson. Dr I L Turman and family of Cynthiana spent weekend with R J Turman. Tom Hare Ray Watson and daughters spent the Fourth at Hutsonville. R J Turman’s relatives hosted a birthday dinner for his seventy sixth anniversary. Mrs Manning and Miss Mary spent the Fourth at J B Durhams. Mrs Mann and children entertained Friday evening. Mrs Mahan of Merom visiting daughter Mrs Will Watson this week.
William T. Mellett, representative from the local lodge, left Saturday night for Rochester New York to attend the grand lodge meeting of the Elks.
Mr and Mrs Paul McMurdy of Robinson visited over Sunday with Mrs Ella Howard, the mother of Mrs McMurdy, staying for a family gathering.

Shelburn attorney posted a bond of 4500 dollars for Sam Woodsmall and securing a retrial.
Samuel W. Woodsmall, Shelburn attorney, convicted in January of conspiracy to defraud Louella Mills of 200 dollars, posted 4500 bond furnished by Shelburn residents and returned home. Retrial likely at September term. if acquitted on conspiracy, other indictments to face.
Elmer Bledsoe, 26, of North Broad Street, accidentally shot his left ankle with a .44 caliber revolver Saturday evening. Doctors Billman and Neff treated a bullet wound just above the ankle that penetrated the bone. Outcome uncertain, infection could require amputation.
County commissioners ruled a Jefferson township remonstrance against liquor license applicants sufficient. The petition listed 337 voters, a majority of the township's legal voters according to the ruling.

Merom residents attended the Fourth of July at Hutsonville with many arriving by boat while the Merom band provided music. A Christian church business meeting discussed plans for a new church. The Methodist pastor Mr. Harbinson is ill. Carl Johnson of Newark visited to help his brother Fred. Bowman transported a horse and buggy from near Indianapolis. Russell Cramer of Sullivan visited his parents. Floyd Moore, recently working in Lima, Ohio, returned to see his ill father. New Lebanon children attended the Fourth driving ponies in decorated buggies.
Mrs A G McNabb spent last week visiting relatives in Merom and returned home.
