Primary Pickups Shape Township Trustee Races
The Curry township trustee race splits along sectional lines with Basil Thomas leading the north end Democrats. Zimri Payne campaigns as Shelburn’s candidate with a Shelburn Enterprise endorsement and a pledge to keep the office at Shelburn. Commodore Smith, a Shelburn rural mail carrier, also seeks the post. In Haddon township the withdrawal of Dr. A G Cox leaves James Buchanan Latshaw as a candidate, soon joined by Talcum Woodard. Talcum, assessor of Haddon, moves toward trustee candidacy while Cox and Latshaw enter the race. Orville Sharp and James Willis contest the assessor post. A notable event: John A Mattix sues Jacob Fleming for $30 over a note tied to a buggy sale, filed during the campaign for Hamilton township commissioner and assessor.
