Quo Warranto Suit Seeks Sheriff Ouster in Sullivan County
John T. and Jil H. Hays file a quo warranto in the circuit court to remove Sheriff Dudley of Sullivan County. Maxwell, coroner, sues in the State of Indiana name. The filing details election, bonds, commissions, and a 1902 lynching that affects eligibility. The suit alleges Dudley’s continued usurpation and seeks judgment to deliver the office to Maxwell. It also questions the governor’s reinstatement decision and the county board’s inaction. The action aims to clarify the law’s application and constitutional validity.
