Former Sullivan attorney has been commissioned as a lieutenant in Company D of the 333rd Infantry. The transfer marks a shift from legal work to active military service with the unit.

Agnes Grigsby Affleck once known as Agnes Kimball and a Sullivan girl rose to concert fame with Victor Herberts orchestra. She served as soprano soloist at Tabernacle Presbyterian in Indianapolis before touring nationally. Her husband Edward T. Affleck of Toledo announced her death Saturday from blood poisoning at her Toledo home. She leaves a daughter Eloise Kimball and siblings, with ties to Indianapolis and Washington Place.
Saturday afternoon at 3 o clock at the home of the bride s parents Miss Tressa Ward married Herman McKinley of this city The bride is a city high school graduate and former bank bookkeeper The groom is an electrician with the Vandalia Coal Company They will reside in the city.
Lieut Golden Webb son of J H Webb and Louise Blye both of the city were married at Terre Haute on Thursday. Dr Webb formerly practiced here as a veterinarian and is now in the Veterinary Reserve of the U S Army stationed at Camp Jackson Columbia S C.
Mrs H E Dutton is visiting her sister Mrs Bert Crawley in City Missouri. The note indicates a social call and travels within the state.
Sullivan county bankers were guests of city bankers at a turkey dinner hosted by Berean class members in the Christian church basement. A male quartet sang patriotic tunes as Col. Robert Taylor spoke on the Thrift Stamp drive and others gave patriotic talks. The Sullivan County Bankers Association meets monthly at a county location.

Henry Davey of Shelburn, linked to the Lattas Creek robbery, is reported to be pardoned from Michigan City prison next month. He is a principal figure noted in criminal annals.
Two sailors' deserter confession ties John Claude Dunn Roy Dunn to a January 3 robbery of Jesse Jackson a Terre Haute jitney driver near Coulson woods. They admitted break ins in Terre Haute and Chicago and said Dunn lives in Marion Indiana.
William Combes alias Roy Combes, wanted on forgery charges, has been found in southern Missouri. Sheriff Hale left last week pursuing Combes but is delayed by snow and poor travel. Combes is accused of forging a $20 back note on Luther Steele of Hymera.
Lewis O. Turnbull of this city, former county commissioner, and Mrs. Margaret McClung, a nurse from Indianapolis, wed Monday afternoon at the Baptist parsonage. The bride, widow of Dr. S. Y. McClung, will reside here with her husband.

Mary Jane Hultz aged 57 died Monday at the family residence after an extended illness. She was a member of the Christian church. Funeral services will be at the late residence conducted by Rev. John McD. Horne. Burial will be at Center Ridge cemetery. She is survived by her husband and three sons Hudson and Louis Hultz of Terre Haute and Will Hultz of Streeter, Illinois.
Mrs Dora Hart aged 42 died Monday at her east city residence after a lingering illness. Funeral will be held this afternoon at the family home. Burial at Center Ridge Cemetery. Survived by three children Harley Hart Nellie Hart and Mrs Glorance Ford of this city.
A patriotic meeting at the courthouse Thursday night added seventeen names to the Home Guard company roll led by Captain designate Lee Ellis. Judge Bridwell chaired. Col Knotts Hunt and Rev Scull spoke. Hymera furnished 12 recruits. Ellis aims for 100 total with 58 needed for organization. Members urged to join through Ellis.
In Vincennes on January 10 the Second district Democrats weigh multiple possible nominees. Potential contenders include William Allen Cullop, D Frank Culbertson, Joseph W. Kimmell, Fred Bays, and Arnold J. Padgett. The field may shift if Culbertson or Kimmell bow out, with Padgett seen as a likely late entrant.
The funeral for Thomas Edward Hoover, Sullivan’s first mayor, was held at the Presbyterian church with large lodge attendance. Elks Knights of Pythias and city officials joined in services led by Rev. W. E. Gray, as pallbearers Rack R. P. White P. L. Reid C. F. E. Batey W. T. Mellott G. G. Walters and W. C. McCrory. Interment followed at Center Ridge cemetery.

Walter Krolkowski, 42, a Hungarian miner living in Hymera, is jailed awaiting Detroit authorities. A Detroit chief filed a murder warrant alleging two U.S. killings and one in Hungary. He seeks habeas corpus in the circuit court, claiming unlawful arrest, while his extradition fight continues.
