In line with a long standing custom the Union will publish a list of candidates ahead of the Democratic primary on February 18. The announcements are being compiled and will appear once the pot is full. Watch for them as they will contain more truth than poetry.
John H. Roberts a former resident of Sullivan Indiana died December 12 at his Cement Oklahoma home. A Civil War veteran he helped build the Sullivan courthouse and school and ran planing mills in Sullivan. He is survived by six sons and one daughter including Marion Robertson of Cement and Charles Robertson of Oklahoma City.
Stadley and defendant in Shelburn file in circuit court for a receiver. Stadley alleges 1905 telephone venture with Patterson ended September 30 1905. He claims fraud, missing firm funds, misrepresentation, and reckless business conduct.
Greene County criminal Spencer Hiatt, recently sent to the Jeffersonville Reformatory, and his associate Ralph Greenwood from Anderson attempted to break out last Saturday. They slipped past guards but Greenwood was shot in the leg and Hiatt abandoned the plan. This marks his second escape attempt since incarceration, following an earlier crawl through a manhole and a 16 foot earth dig.
A detailed list shows allocations from Jackson Township, Curry Township, Fairbanks Township, Turman Township, Hamilton Township, Cass Township, Jefferson Township, Haddon Township, and others. Payments include tuition funds, school taxes, special and corporation taxes, road taxes, and additions for road funds, plus town allocations to Shelburn, Farmersburg, Sullivan, Dugger, Carlisle, Merom, and Hymera.
Mrs. Nancy Gates of Kramer North Dakota traveled to Sullivan on Saturday seeking her son Luther. The missing man was found two days later working for William Thornberry in Turman township with help from Dave Stewart a rural carrier on route two.
Farmesburg reports Marshal Charles Shepherd accepted the job as Jasonville marshal and left Monday to assume duties. The Greene County town anticipates orderly governance with Shepherd known for effective enforcement. Salary is understood to be 85 dollars per month.
Claude Taylor aged 20 died yesterday morning at the home of his parents Mr and Mrs Edward Taylor on South Court street after a lingering illness with consumption. He was born February 1 1876 in this city and began work at T K Sherman and Son at age fourteen.
Retired salesman turned partner with Ernest Cowles, owning the Crowder shoe store on Thomas B. Springer Jr. He leaves a wife, his parents, and a sister Mrs Will Eaton. Funeral services set for Thursday at the Christian church.
John Brewer son of Undertaker and County Sheriff Charles E. Brewer was struck on the head with a billiard cue by Claude Trout at Laurent's pool room on Christmas Eve. He was treated by Dr. Bailey and sent to Union Hospital Terre Haute where his condition improved. Trout was arrested, bail set at 1000, and lodged in Sullivan.
A woman promised to gift a peculiar pin to her future son and handed it to Mr. Hutchison. He kept it until Christmas when he gave it to his nephew Theodore Barnes with orders to pass it to his son. The one hundred year old pin bears an odd stone no one can identify.
Children discover sixteen sticks of dynamite and a box of caps behind the Liven Woolen Mills. The bundle wrapped in a Terre Haute paper dated December 20 indicates recent placement.
Lew Davis had his hand badly mashed at the Mamoth mine when his hand was caught between a car and a prop. Oris Allen was severely injured at the Reliance mine when his car jumped the track, throwing him against the wall with a scalp wound and mashed shoulder.
Farmersburg December 31 report Mrs Cobb Johnson of Shelburn drew a revolver on Squire Dickey of Shelburn. She was arrested yesterday and the case moved to Squire Taylor of Shelburn for trial after Squire Hunt adjourned the hearing.
Roy Kester, 25, died Monday night at his home north of Farmersburg from heart trouble. Funeral set for 10 AM tomorrow with burial in Hull Cemetery. He was the son in law of Frank Russell of Farmersburg.
Farmersburg reports Frank Scott proprietor of the Montgomery House was arrested by Marshal Lloyd Saturday. He chose to serve his fine by jail and was sent to Sullivan and delivered to Sheriff Walters.
Shelburn officials report that the internal revenue department plans to dispatch an inspector to the town after learning that attempts are being made to operate a saloon. The move signals federal scrutiny of local liquor activity.

The Merom Island in the Wabash River near Riverton is to be surveyed to determine dominion and ownership amid questions whether it belongs to the federal government, Indiana, Illinois, or riparian landowners. Officials note its status affects title and potential use of the island’s soil.
The funeral for John Anderson, who died in Terre Haute, was conducted at Liberty church on Sunday. A special interurban car ferried the funeral party from Terre Haute. Mr. Anderson was an uncle of local undertaker J. H. Allen.
