Woman Seeks Damages in Mine Death Case
A jury in a circuit court awarded Mrs. Ihav Freeman of Farmersburg ten thousand dollars in a wrongful death case against William and Fred Lash over the December 1911 death of her husband William Freeman in the Lash mine near Farmersburg. The verdict against William Lash totaled 2225 dollars. Fred Lash contends he was not a partner. Mrs. Freeman, with six dependent children, sought support from the mine incident.

Tuberculosis caused five deaths in September. diarrhoea five. cancer and external causes six. Sullivan city recorded seven deaths in September and August. tuberculosis caused two deaths, the largest single-disease toll.

Burglars Run Rampant as City Stores Robbed
Last Wednesday night burglars hit four city businesses after stealing chisels from Albert Clark's blacksmith shop. They pried rear windows, took about 75 dollars, and avoided the jewelry stock. Ruddell Brothers Grocery yielded around 40 dollars plus pennies. Scott Hardware lost three revolvers and cash from the register. Beasley's Grocery netted just over 20 dollars.

Parole Consideration for Elmis Carter in Orr Murder Case
Elmis Carter, serving a life sentence in Michigan City for the seven year old murder of Joe B. Orr in this city, has been recommended to Governor Ralston by the state board of pardons. The killing occurred at Ed Leach's saloon near the C I & I station when Carter allegedly struck Orr with a brick, fracturing his skull. Orr was a brother of Elam Orr. Carter is said to have been a model prisoner.
