John Wesley Callahan a former Sullivan resident died Monday at his Terre Haute home after a four year illness from nervous breakdown. He was 64, born in Vigo county and taught vocal music in Sullivan. An optician in Terre Haute for over thirty years, he was a member of Social Lodge F and A M. Interment in Highland Lawn cemetery. Survived by family.

Fuller Charged With Intent After Carlisle Assault on Dr Pirtle
Dr George W Pirtle of Carlisle sued Russell B Fuller for 10000 damages after an alleged late Thursday assault on the streets of Carlisle. Pirtle says Fuller attacked him breaking glasses and injuring his eyes and then left town after a fine was paid. Fuller had sold hogs to Charles Pearce to cover a doctor bill in a case that was appealed from Carlisle Squire Johnson’s court to Squire Homer Curtis in Gill township. Local officers anticipate arrest if located in Michigan where Fuller’s wife and family live.

Letters Lost in Sullivan Postoffice Found After Seventeen Years
Lewis Pirtle uncovered a yellow postal card from April 1899 and a letter from May 1899 in a door crack inside the old Sullivan post office. The letter to Mark Kennedy’s mother in Hutsonville reveals he worked at a local livery stable, while the card was sent to a Detroit firm by Burton Brothers. Arthur A. Holmes was postmaster during McKinley’s term.
