The 1921 to 1922 pension rolls declined from 566 053 to 547 016 as 25 082 veterans and 21 259 widows died in the year. Mexican War survivors number 73. Pensions cost 253 807583, with a new law boosting civil war ex soldiers and widows to 50 a month while mortality may offset the rise.
