Adley C. Carrithers a 60 year old farmer near Farmersburg died by hanging in a shed on his property. Found by granddaughter Esther Nixon the death followed a period of ill health with coroner noting fatal strangulation. He leaves a widow and one daughter.
The city schools begin on Monday September 10 with Superintendent A D Montgomery returning from New York where he attended Columbia University. Township schools will open September 17, marking the start of the new term for the county districts.
John L. Ingersoll a Petersburg retired farmer visiting his son Jesse Ingersoll 442 miles south of Carlisle was found dead in bed Saturday morning An inquest by Coroner I N Botts ruled death due to apoplexy.

The Sullivan circuit court's September term will convene Monday and run continuously to October 27. A heavy docket is planned and the term is expected to be busy. Grand and petit juries were selected. petit jurors report September 4 and the grand jury convenes September 11 with listed members.
Mrs. Stalla Langworthy of San Diego California will visit here next week to see her sisters Mrs. Josephine Briggs and Mrs. Helen Mahley and other relatives. This will be her first visit since leaving about twenty five years ago. She was born and raised here as daughter of the late James W. Hinkle and is sister to Carl R. Hinkle formerly of this city now in St. Joe Michigan.
The Wood family reunion gathered Sunday at the Jefferson township homestead founded by Lacey Wood and later home to Robert Henderson and family. Descendants arrived with baskets for a noon dinner and an afternoon of conversation and reminiscences, with many named attendees including Dr. J. L. Wilson of Indianapolis and Dr. E. A. Wood of Columbus.
Miss Ruth Reid daughter of Mr and Mrs Paul L Reid and former city school teacher married James Brown a Fort Wayne attorney in Bloomington on Monday Rev Taylor conducted the ceremony. The couple left for French Lick and will reside in Fort Wayne where Brown practices law.
R. H. Richart of Peerless Tire and Battery Co. announces a new Constant Potential Recharger in the battery department. Batteries dropped off at 8 AM can be ready by 4 PM, enabling faster service for motorists. Richart calls the feature a leap in battery advancement and notes his progressive approach within the state’s trade community.

Rev. C. R. Piety and his family of Allerton Iowa are visiting the pastor and his wife Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Piety in Turman township. The party traveled by automobile to the area.
Ed Kelly former sheriff of this county and now deputy in the sheriff's office at Colorado Springs has been promoted from riding deputy to deputy. Frank Botts succeeds him as deputy, a former Sullivan man who has served as a policeman in Colorado Springs. The community notes his recognition and the shift in local law enforcement leadership.
The annual Sullivan County teachers institute opens Monday for a five day session led by Richard Park county superintendent of schools. Instructors include Fred L. Shaw South Dakota state superintendent, Alvin C. Payne from State Normal Terre Haute, with Mr. and Mrs. A W Youngblood of this city in charge of music.
Postmaster General urges rural route patrons to paint mail boxes white with owners names on both sides and posts white. Annual painting recommended. postmasters to note unpainted boxes during inspections and request owners to paint. Cooperation expected to improve appearance while service remains intact.
Isaac M. Maxwell and passengers including Mrs. Maxwell Mrs. Kate Stow and Mrs. Charles Gambill and daughter were in a head on collision near Allendale Illinois after Maxwell passed a car on loose gravel. Mrs Maxwell suffered a forehead cut needing three stitches and a female passenger in the other car was cut on the arm by glass.
Surviving members of Company G 11th Indiana Cavalry will attend a reunion and dinner hosted by Capt. Thomas B. Springer at the Davis hotel on Tuesday September 11. Roll call at 11 A. M. Eleven members survive. Col. R. F. Knotts serves as secretary.
William R. Houpt aged 72 died at his home in American Falls Idaho on August 17 after a months long illness. A native of Sullivan County he was born in 1850 and moved to Idaho in 1912. He was a longtime Christian church member and son of Henry Houpt a county pioneer. Survived by widow Martha E. Houpt three children Rolie Houpt Center Point Myrtie Crawford and Ethel Crawford of American Falls and one brother Henry Houpt of this city.
The Sullivan post office will be closed all day Monday for Labor Day with no city or rural deliveries. Mails will be dispatched as usual.
Jacob Combs and William Rogers two well known Haddon township farmers clashed on Paxton street Monday afternoon. Rogers claims Combs drew a gun. Joe Rogers allegedly grabbed the weapon and struck Combs. Both were released on bond pending grand jury investigation.
The Sullivan county horse shoe club defeated Terre Haute twelve 942 to 590 at Pennsy Gym and then beat Coal Bluff 431 to 290. Players included Samuel Phegley Roy Roseberry Ted Phegley Hosie Deckard Jessie Alsop and others as John Trierweiler promised to return next Sunday with plans to even the score.

Funeral held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at residence conducted by Dr Tyler Terre Haute. Interment West Lawn.
Mr and Mrs C H Stratton and their son Joe have been at Leland Michigan for some time and are expected to return home in a few days.
A parade of more than three hundred women members of the Ku Klux Klan occurred Friday evening preceding a meeting at Pavillion Park. A large crowd witnessed the procession.
Anna Witheral of Fairbanks has been declared insane at an inquest conducted by Dr. H. E. Bland. An application has been made for her admission to the southern insane hospital at Vansville.
Dr and Mrs Floyd McBride of Coffeyville Kansas are expected this week to visit the former’s parents Mr and Mrs T P Mc Bride. Dr McBride has been in Chicago taking special work.
