Uncle Billy Power Celebrates 88th Birthday in Sullivan County
William Power marked his eighty eighth birthday Monday at his home on south Main street. He will have lived in Sullivan County fifty years by January 1. Born in Fleming County Kentucky, he moved with his family to Mason County before settling near Marysville. He arrived in Sullivan County January 1 1856 and cleared forty acres north of Sullivan now owned by Harrison Pittman. He once hauled logs to a saw mill with a rented engine and eight man crew, and fifty years ago plowed with a three cornered plow. He recalls double log cabins, candles made by dipping wick, and the late shift from oil lamps to oil. He remains hearty though hearing is dim.

The Bill Was Killed
An American Irishman proudly kept a prized goat named Bill on a nine acre plot beside a railroad. The goat butted all intruders while the Master visited daily. One day the man could not locate Bill and found halves of the goat beside the tracks, having tried to stop the train. He quipped that Bill had grit but poor judgment.
