William Perham of Peoria returns to his old hometown after forty years, revisiting childhood sights and memories in a quiet homecoming. He plans to reconnect with neighbors and reflect on life since leaving the town.
William Perham of Peoria Illinois visited Sullivan to reconnect with his boyhood. He recalled playing marbles with Jim Riggs and others, working as office devil for Sullivan Union and Sullivan Times, and visiting Center Ridge cemetery to view grandparents’ graves. He spoke of old friends Otto in California and Billy Eaton in Florida.
A large crowd attended a county Methodist rally at the local church with district superintendent Dr. R. H. Toole presiding. Speakers included B. M. McDonald on church finances and Clarence D. Royse on the financial outlook, followed by Bishop F. D. Leete. Musical groups from Hymera and Shelburn performed between programs.
Plans are made for the Sullivan county farmers picnic to be held Wednesday September 12. A parade at 10 a m features township delegations with prizes for largest groups and contests. Committees include General chaired by Harry Buff Prize chaired by Paul Wible and Walter Routt Advertising chaired by Hamilton Stockdale and others Place chaired by H S Benson Fauteh and Buff Concessions by D D Bradbury Program by Addison Drake and event details listed for tug o war wheelbarrow polo hog calling and various races. Judges will be agricultural agents from Greene View and Knox counties.
Impressive services for the late President Warren G. Harding drew a large crowd at the city park on Friday afternoon. Businesses closed for the hour as the flag flew at half mast on a new steel pole funded by local donations. Sullivan band played sacred music. Charles D. Hunt chaired the event, with Mayor Walter B. Walters introducing him. Chaplain S. J. Lane offered the invocation and a chartette sang Nearer My God to Thee. Brief addresses were given by Hon. John C. Chaney and Rev. S. L. Long.
The Woman's Auxiliary to the American Legion Fairbanks Post 275 enjoyed a program at Mrs. Helen Drake's home with a covered dish luncheon and refreshments. Attendees included Mrs. Hattie Martin, Lelia Thomas, and many others. the next meeting will be at Mrs. Charles Rankin's Prairie Creek, Ind, with a call for eligible members to join.
Inez Myers was arrested Saturday afternoon at Shelburn on a Vigo county warrant by Chief James H. Willis. Vigo county officials arrived Sunday and took the prisoner to Terre Haute. She is linked to a taxi driver holdup near Pimento last May and is considered an accomplice. two men, Ross Buckley and Earl Spears, were arrested in Detroit and are bond-bound.
The Standard cuts 6.6 cents per gallon effective Monday, with tank-wagon prices down 16 cents and service stations down 18 cents. Other firms match the move as national slump lowers prices by about 22 to 23 percent from previous levels.

Mrs. T. H. Robbins 54 of Freelandville died early yesterday at her aunt J. H. Wallis home on South State Street after a long illness. Her husband preceded her in death. Surviving are a son K. V. Robbins of Indianapolis a mother Mrs. L. M. Vancleave of Laketown a brother Shirley T. Vancleave of Terre Haute and a sister Mrs Henry McClure of Oaktown.
Rebecca Jane Bottorff fourteen months old, daughter of Clarence and Mrs. Bottorff, died Monday morning at 7 30 at the county hospital.
A child was rushed to the hospital for an emergency operation Sunday evening but died despite all efforts. The funeral took place at 2:80 PM Wednesday from the home of Mrs. Bottorff’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Grubaugh, with burial in Center Ridge cemetery.
Sam McCutcheon aged 66, an inmate of the county infirmary, was found dead in his bed early yesterday. He had dressed for breakfast when stricken. He leaves two daughters in Olney Illinois and a sister in Hutsonville. Burial took place at the infirmary this afternoon.

The Boone family reunion will be held at the James H Boone farm six miles east of Carlisle on August 19. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
The annual Old Settlers meeting at Bennett's Grove Farmersburg drew large crowds over Thursday and Friday. Speakers included Hon John C. Chaney Congressman Arthur Greenwood and Mayor Ora Davis with Fred Purnell and Thomas N. Taylor addressing on civil life. A long list of prize contests honored the town's pioneers and veterans while the baby show highlighted Sullivan county's newest settlers.
Due to failing health, Her man McKee will sell at public sale on Clyde Thomas’s farm, 20 miles northeast of Dodd's Bridge. Items include horses, cows, hogs, some growing corn, and household articles. Sale starts at 10 a m.
Greencastle Ind Aug 14 Dr J G Royse assistant secretary of the State Board of Health urged replacing all prison housing at the State Penal Farm near Greencastle with permanent durable structures. He contrasted with Pendleton reformatory buildings praised as plain and lasting and noted plans to use brick and concrete in new farm facilities funded by a $60 000 appropriation.
The Sullivan County Horse-shoe Club hosts Terre Haute champions at City Park Sunday afternoon for a battle royal. Sullivan boasts an undefeated club this year while Terre Haute claims statewide top status, promising a tough test for the winner.
Mrs. Tom Dugger sustained a double fracture of her right leg above the ankle yesterday afternoon after a fall at her North Main Street home. She was using a sewing machine to arrange a curtain when she slipped.
