A long polemic accuses Democratic editors of shouting slander about Grant and corruption. It cites Treasury defalcation figures across administrations, arguing Republicans were cleaner than Democrats, and comments on Hancock Beauregard and South politics and an Indiana court case noting alleged conspiracies to defeat constitutional amendments.

Curious Photograph Results From Meudon Exposures
M Janssen reports that extending solar image exposure beyond a brief negative stage yields a neutral plate, then a reversed positive image with light and dark inverted. Further exposure returns to a second neutral state. Positive results appear at exposures of half to one second on dry plates, showing sun as white with spots black, plus landscapes and park views at Meudon.
