Perilous Civil War Odyssey of Rev. John Spears 1832 73rd Birthday
The Rev. John Spears of Spencer celebrated his 73rd birthday on April 15 and is noted for a long ministry and his harrowing Civil War experiences. Born in Tennessee in 1832, he was repeatedly targeted by Confederate forces, fled to Kentucky, joined the Union as chaplain of the 6th Tennessee Infantry, and endured capture and perilous offshore escape before returning to service. He later served as a pastor in multiple towns and remained active in ministry for decades.

Notable details of a farm scene with named figures
A fragmented report describes a 1200 pound animal and mentions figures such as Jesse Baddon and Capt. Jesse Baddon's grandson. The text references a barn near Merom Station and events in spring months with a service fee of 8.00, weaving personal names and vague locations into a dated rural vignette.
