Remains of Sal Little Linked to 19th Century Wabash Murders
A two feet deep hole on M. B. Woodworth’s farm east of Palestine Illinois yielded a nearly preserved skeleton and skull with red hair. Locals identify the remains as Sal Little the mistress of John Stewart and partners Carver Hutchings, whose murder case dates from about 35 years prior. The discovery ends a long chapter in a regional tragedy.

Grand jury adjourned without indictment in Dudley kidnapping case
Crawford county Illinois grand jury met at Robison and adjourned without indicting John S. Dudley for kidnapping. Sheriff Dudley brought James Dillard the alleged rapist to Robison. after transporting him to Indiana some residents threatened Dudley with kidnapping charges. Francis Drake and John Woodruff, coal miners, were found guilty of murdering a deputy sheriff near Hopkinsville Kentucky during a coal strike and received life sentences.

Stores close at 8 pm April through October and at 7 pm October through March, with exceptions on Saturdays and on pay days the 10th and 25th and on special days.
