Cecil Rivers endures a snowbound morning at Oaklands as Mr Craven dawdles with plans to visit the major’s dinner and a hidden path leads to a perilous concealment. In a sudden bid for freedom Cecil slips past a snoozing Major, narrowly avoiding discovery when the conservatory door traps her.
A fragment describes a drawing-room where the Major sits serenely in his chair and Miss Rivers is absent. The expected quarrel or irate confrontation does not occur, leaving an eerie calm and no sign of Miss Rivers.
A reflective piece on money as a transient possession, contrasting rich and poor in happiness and value. It notes how both wealth and poverty shape desire, fear, and contentment, with examples from family life and social ambition, ending with endorsements of remedies and cultural observations.
The 1886 sixty fourth volume will publish a new series of Ireneus Letters from Great Britain France Germany Italy and letters from mission stations in India China Japan Africa and Micronesia. It will also include original articles by informed writers and selected poetry and prose. A second series with sketch of the author and life review will follow. New York Observer.
An ordinance of Sullivan Indiana authorizes issuing two thousand dollars in five hundred dollar bonds dated December 15 1835 to fund a fire engine fleet cisterns and protection. Bonds run seven to ten years at six percent with payment at two banks. taxes up to fifty cents per $100 annually secure principal and interest. Publication required in The Sullivan Times for three weeks.
By virtue of a certified copy from the Sullivan Circuit Court a sale is set for Saturday November 28 1885 at the Sullivan County Court House. The rents and profits for a term not exceeding seven years on the southeast quarter of the northeast quarter section eight township eight north range ten west are offered.
