Archbishop Taschereau Elevated to Cardinalate News
The people of Quebec celebrated Archbishop Taschereau’s elevation to the college of cardinals with fireworks and commemorations. The aged prelate has served as priest and shepherd for forty four years, ministering in hospitals during typhus outbreaks and sacrificing to serve the sick and dying. Cardinal Taschereau, born near Quebec, rose through Laval and Quebec diocesan leadership, with a cardinal’s hat arriving about June 10 enabling him to vote on papal succession.
