Sullivan County's Almanac Notes Transfers and Prophesies
The Robinsons sell The Constitution to J H Fulton as Talbot partners exit. The issue notes fair promotion and a cattle land dispute, with critique of a gold to silver swap. A new Bloomfield court house pictured by Mr Moss is praised. Ohio temperance reformers clash with Republicans while Democrats expected to win the state by about 25 thousand.

Grant's Memorial debate sparks national art and policy talk
In the September North American Review Launt Thompson and others discuss a Grant memorial, together with essays on banking reform and English fiction. Ex sergeant at arms French provides engaging reminiscences of famous Americans, with broader critique of public morality and post office reform. The column includes postmaster appointment rates, then a biographical sketch of Uncle Isaac Payne, a long-time local voter and church member, celebrating his 78th birthday.
