Governor Haines campaigns on reducing state taxes and expenditures. He promotes a pamphlet from the state tax commission detailing Idaho’s financial condition and tax structure to voters. He calls for drastic legislative action to lower taxes and control spending with tighter state oversight.
Jay outlines powers for a tax commission to supervise all assessments equals and levies and to adopt a two installment tax payment plan with a discount for full payment. He seeks a uniform accounting system and accelerated sale of state holdings to convert dormant resources into capital, reduce direct state taxes, and eventually eliminate them. He vows bills aligned with the tax road report for the upcoming legislature and calls for citizen aid.
G Askew shot and killed G T Parks three miles south of Rigby after a divorce suit and disputed possession of property. Witnesses say three shots were fired. Askew claims self defense as authorities hold the firearm. Road taxes and road work noted in nearby Sugar City.

In Washington Senator Borah defends suffrage but argues constitutional amendment is impractical, predicting states will reject it after 15 years and urging repeal of the Fifteenth Amendment. He warns that federalizing voting rights could provoke widespread resistance and constitutional challenges.
The Bowerman Sunday School was organized last Sunday in the Bowerman area midway between Teton and Canyon Creek. Superintendent Dean Clark, recently returned missionary, chairs the school with J. R. Hammer and Rev. H. Dredge as assistants. The region is growing fast. a new railroad will shorten farm-product hauling and attract settlers. The nearby district erected a neat stone school, and Hyrim Hilton of Salem leads the day school with strong attendance.
Senator Borah argued for a balance of Hamiltonian strong central authority and Jeffersonian local government. He warned against entrusting power to a college professor and praised the founders while commenting on Reconstruction era ideas. He floated repealing the fifteenth amendment if woman suffrage could be achieved by other means amid a Senate exchange with Senator Thomas.
Governor John M. Haines proclaims a Home Industry Week in Idaho from Monday the 13th to Saturday the 19th of April 4914. The measure urges citizens to favor local and Pacific Northwest industries to boost state resources and economic development, with Secretary Wilcont de Gitford and state officials attesting the action.
Brown of Brown Real Estate Salt Lake visits Sugar City and Rexburg. He argues land values here are not overestimated and the Upper Snake River valley offers opportunities for new settlers and investors. He cites lower interest lending, hotel improvements, and a new highway as likely to boost business and employment this summer.
Judge yesterday granted an injunction restraining West from operating his saloon on the west side of the Snake river across from American Falls until the legal rights in the case are settled. Boise attorney Sullivan argued the license was granted by Power county and that the county is not yet dry as it is new. The injunction may become permanent, and West will likely appeal to the supreme court if the decision goes against him.
Tickets for Mormon conference trips via the Oregon Short Line from Ogden to Salt Lake City go on sale from northern points with dates in April 1948. Limited seating with rates and details available through agents. An Utah Products Exhibit visit is noted in Salt Lake City.
