Uncle John Harlan sketch recalls Indiana life long farmer
Born January 24 1821 in Wayne County Indiana John Harlan taught school as a young man and later farmed. He married Martha Godfrey in 1842 and fathered 11 children four of whom survive. If he lives to January 14 1913 he would reach his 92nd year. Also notes Mrs G C Mendenhall’s return from Burlington after a sister’s operation and Miss Rowe’s slow recovery.

Mrs. Edward Slutts died in Chicago Monday and the remains were buried at Keosauqua Wednesday. The husband and two children arrived with the body Wednesday noon, the funeral held at 2 p.m. at J. H. Jamison’s home conducted by Rev. C. A. Field.
