Labor Day Parade Draws Thousands to Sterling
Labor Day drew several thousand people to Sterling on Monday for a citywide celebration with a parade of union workers, speeches, and street entertainments. Delegations from DeKalb, Sycamore, Rochelle and Dixon attended, bands played, and attractions ran from morning until night despite damp weather. The event featured Le Poser James Gordon on a slack wire and performances by trapeze artists and trained monkeys, with crowd turnout estimated in the mid five thousands despite lighter Dixon attendance.
