Abbott Named on State Soil Investigation Advisory
A. N. Abbott of Stick has been appointed by the Farmers' Institute as a member of the advisory committee for soil investigation work in Illinois. He will visit experimental stations in McLean Champaign Effingham Washington Perry Randolph and St. Clair counties to review clover fields and soil fertility efforts during a weeklong tour. The legislature recently appropriated 50 000 for the program.

Central Union Improves City With New Bell Cable
Bell Telephone brings eight thousand feet of new cable to the city to extend the old lines and replace rims with cables. Fire-cable weighs over five tons and two hundred wire pairs, the largest ever brought here, are to be strung. A new switchboard will be installed as part of the over thirteen thousand dollar improvements. The work starts in a few days with plans for a number one or nine style board.

Wheels-Took His Hand Brakeman Severed by Train Accident
Jacob Krohn brakeman on the C N W was injured in Chicago yards last night while trying to catch his train. His hand was severed at the wrist as the moving locomotive clipped it.
