Dixon Council Repeals Part of Electric Spur Franchise

Henry C. Higgins of the S. D. and E. appeared before the Dixon city council Friday to repeal Section 3 of the ordinance granting a franchise. The section, detailing a spur on Third Street from College to Grant, would expire February 20. Fourth ward aldermen opposed the repeal, but the measure passed 7 to 3.

Inauguration Day for Governor Deneen in Springfield

Governor Charles S Deneen and elected state officers were inaugurated in Springfield amid a large crowd. League to Serve Supper at Trinity Church

The K C E of Trinity church will host a supper at 905 East Third Street tomorrow evening from 5 to 7. All are invited as proceeds go to the organ fund for a new instrument in the prayer room. After the supper a social hour will follow.

Sterling Business College enrolls record numbers

The Sterling Business College reports rapid enrollment growth with the commercial and shorthand departments nearing last year’s totals. Shorthand shows 105 students this year versus 110 last year, suggesting over 200 by year end. New student Misg Alline Hepner arrived from Tipton Town, while Prof Potter evaluates a student for his brother. George Pfisterer, home from Champaign, will join the Springfield inaugural ceremonies alongside Illinois University cadets.

The Rev. Dr. M. M. Parkhurst delivered a remarkable sermon on the twenty third Psalm at the Academy of Music to a crowded audience. Funds for the Y M C A were pledged rapidly, with gifts from fifteen to one hundred dollars and a total nearing one thousand dollars.
