YMCA workers celebrate a new institute building with plans to complete immediately and raise an additional ten thousand dollars. The project carries strong support and aims to clear away barriers to completion.
The State YMCA institute led by Secretary Brow n and Assistant Secretary Thomasson convened in the association rooms for a full program. A directors dinner, educational conference, boys conference, religious work session, and committee tea preceded a mass meeting addressed by A M Bruner. Officials outlined financing, with aims to raise 10000 dollars to complete the building for occupancy by September.
Special correspondence from Elgin Illinois April 12 describes the Illinois conference of the Evangelical association examining fourteen junior preachers and a sermon by Rev J A Boeller of Geneseo. The Mutual Fire Insurance company session reported assets over two hundred thousand dollars. The Preachers' Missionary society noted $11000 raised in missionary funds.
The Davenport Times reports Rev J B Donaldson of the Presbyterian church examined his son Robert S Donaldson for the ministry during the Presbyterian synod at the First Presbyterian church. Robert S Donaldson, a McCormick Theological seminary student, was licensed by the synod after passing tests in theology Hebrew New Testament Greek Church History Sacrament and Church Government. His Latin thesis and Princeton University diploma were presented. He is pronounced proficient in all required branches.
Ralph Spaulding of Byron won first place in the naval academy examination held in Freeport with an 89.8 average. Edward Lapham of Dixon took second with a 42 average, and John Thompson of Fulton would have posted a high score if he had passed the physical.
The village of Milledgeville shows growing sentiment against saloons with an anti saloon petition signed by 214 women while 13 refused for personal reasons. State Anti Saloon League chairman Mr Anderson is expected to speak next Sunday morning and evening.
The Baptist church Ladies Benevolent Society held a business meeting yesterday afternoon and evening in church parlors then served supper to a large crowd. Tomorrow two socials expected. juniors host an Easter supper in the Odds piano contest. a social at Miss Mabel Hunsberger's home. Miss Matie Demarst of Dixon visits Miss Ethel McCallister.

Senate amendments to Rep Sheldon’s township high school bill pass the house in Springfield. The measure ties high school township status to towns of 1000 in a two town township, with the majority city housing guiding the split. Mrs S S Kehr conducted a parliamentary law drill, with Miss Vergie Bensinger and Verna Bell performing an instrumental duet. The next meeting on Wednesday April 26 will establish a permanent organization.

The Dixon community huddled as the largest funeral for Edwin Goodrich took place at the Dixon Methodist church after his companion Frank Ayres drowned Monday in the river. Despite dynamite and dragnet searches plus clairvoyant tips, no trace of Ayres was found. a $100 reward prompted continual riverfront scrutiny with crowds watching the operations near the Illinois Central bridge and Sugar Grove cemetery awaits interment.
