Illinois Y Teen Summer Conference at Bradley University

Illinois Y-Teen Summer Conference held on Bradley University's campus featured four Sterling delegates Gail Aper Norma Miller Audrey Bos and Carol Taft. The week included workshops clinics and worship with a theme Keys To The Future and events like foreign night and a closing ceremony to promote leadership and combat prejudice.

Welcome Township High School New Faculty 1961 62

Principal Roscoe Eades welcomes new staff at Township High School for the 1961 1962 year. Six new teachers and a nurse join a large entering student body, with promises of completed building construction by June 1962 and a renewed push for school pride, responsibility, and democratic conduct.

New School Nurse Appointed Mrs Hawkins Replaces Mrs Davidson

Mrs Harold Hawkins will serve as the new school nurse next year replacing Mrs Eleanor Davidson. She is a Milledgeville High School graduate and trained at Sterling Public Hospital now Community General Hospital linked with Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. Hawkins supervised at Sterling Public Hospital for eight years. Her interests include red as a favorite color, fruit as favorite food, no pet peeves, and a love of sports especially fishing.

Year's Program Planned By Hi Tri Council

Hi-Tri Council spent several afternoons this summer drafting a constitution and by-laws for the organization. The document sets rules for Hi-Tri girls to follow, with Norma Miller as President and a slate of officers including Audrey Bos Vice President Ann Farrer Secretary Mary Jo Mercer Treasurer Carol Taft Worship Ann Lahman Social Maxine Wallis Pat Howe Program Nancy Rothstein Publicity Wanda Rhoads Song Leader Phyllis Kosier Pianist.

Beek May Beekback-To-School Dance at Sterling High

Students from Township Community Falls High Schools and alumni returned to college for the annual Beek Back-To-School Dance. Lamp Lighters provided music as fall colors and corn stalks decorated the room. Roger Laible hosted with co chairs Mary Saunders and John Norton coordinating programs, arrangements, decorations, promotions, and refreshments.

Sterling Merchants Parade Draws Thousands in Sterling

Thousands lined Sterling streets Wednesday August 8 for the Sterling Merchants Association gala parade. Police and firemen led the march followed by the Dixon State Hospital Band and glamor girls from 1961 in convertibles and era costumes in antique autos. About 50 decorated bicycles, horseback riders, ponies, small carts, and new cars completed the lineup amid swimming and novelty races at Lawrence Park. The events offered broad enjoyment for Sterling residents and the Merchants Association.

Sterling Township High School Script First Issue Free

The first issue of the Sterling Township High School Script is distributed to every student and past patrons free. Subscriptions for the rest of the year are $2.00 or available by presenting an activity ticket.
