Alumni Plan Homecoming Events For 1949 50
Alumni board outlines steps to rekindle activity during Homecoming. Mary Beth Harrison oversees class contact to update addresses for about 2 500 alumni and coordinate sign making and publicity with Lyle Geeting and G A A volunteers. A scoreboard project via Junior Chamber of Commerce will be presented to the school board at the game. Fulfilling a free will offering at the football game funds the effort and a campus paper will keep alums informed.

On September 15 the seniors held their first class meeting in the annex Shirley Vorderstrasse presided Lola Nelson and Lyle Marquis named Hallowe en Frolic committee chairs Jo Cole and Dick Nuttall chosen as Student Council representatives.

Red Cross Council Elects Officers for the Year
A student from each class joined the Red Cross Council and elected Marilyn Miller president Kenny Fishback treasurer and Nancy Kunde secretary. A Polio fund collection netted eighty dollars from the student body as plans and committees were formed for the homecoming float.

Blithe Spirit Presented for Polio Benefit in DeKalb
The DeKalb Stage Coach Players staged Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit to raise funds for the polio drive. The three act play ran at 8:15 p.m. Saturday in the gym, by a group formed three years ago for the fun of it.

Hi Tri Holds Record Party
The Hi Tri group held its first fall meeting a record party on Tuesday September 20 at 6 pm. Members donated phonograph records to the YWCA. A supper and business session followed with President Sue Bucher presiding. Committee chairmen named members and plans were made to travel to Chicago on October 13. Merilyn Wilkinson gave devotions.

Sophomore Class Meets Opens Year under Von Knight
The sophomores held their first class meeting of the year on September 15 with president Von Knight presiding. February 25 is slated for the annual sophomore dance and plans are underway for a Homecoming Parade float.

Homecoming Week Activities At Local School
The noon parade led by the band featured colorful floats from classes and clubs. A pep meeting followed to boost support for tonight's football game, regarded as one of the year's most important contests. Future Farmers Enter Prize Winning Float
The S I S Chapter of the Future Farmers of America won first prize in the rural division of the Fall Festival parade on September 30 for their float titled the Forty Niners. The entry featured a covered wagon with prospectors panning gold and Whiteside County yellow corn while continuing a tradition of prize winning floats.

Mrs. Mee Joins Faculty At SHS Biology Department
Margaret Mee is a new SHS faculty member assisting Miss Sherman in biology. She enjoys teaching biology, likes SHS, and has two daughters aged 10 and 7. Her past teaching included biology and physical education at Rock Falls High School.
