Thanksgiving Formal Replaces Christmas Dance at High School

An all school Thanksgiving Eve formal replaces the usual Christmas dance in the high school gym on November 20. Co chairs Fern Allen and Herb Carleton welcome former students to mingle with current students and staff. Don Kyger et al choose the orchestra. Geraldine Lange designs decorations. Arthur Melville handles ads and tickets. Gertrude Fine directs the feature. formal dress not required but many will wear long dresses.

Enthusiastic Crowds Make 1940 Homecoming a Gala

Sterling high school capped a weekend of festivities with a Friday pep event at Grandpn Civic Center featuring former cheerleaders Naomi Benters Viola Nester and Helen Myers. Saturday parade highlighted by girls on horseback and club floats themed Beat Clinton. Evening dance with a skit marrying Sterling to Victory and a locker room quartet plus musical numbers capped the celebration.

Yearbook Portraits Urgently Scheduled by December 10

Seniors should immediately book a slot with local photographers for yearbook photos. Any portrait type is allowed and a glossy print will be made from the chosen pose for the annual. The print must be submitted to Herb Carleton no later than December 10.

Seniors Stage "What A Life" Comedy This Weekend

Rubinoff Approves Swing in Sterling Concert

In Sterling on October 30 the famous violinist Rubinoff answered our questions after a frenzied hotel search. He praised swing, named Sophisticated Lady as a favorite pop tune, and Sweet Mystery of Life as among the most beautiful songs. He practices about four hours daily, enjoys photography, prizes fights, and sports, and notes Herbert as a personal friend.

Aldrich Family Radio Comedy to be Staged by Senior Class

A three act comedy What a Life by Clifford Goldsmith will be performed November 28 and 29 by senior class actors. Henry Aldrich will be played by John Platt with Ezra Stone from the original 1938 Biltmore theatre production linked to the radio show The Aldrich Family. Bradley College will present the play with Lyle Geeting in the cast. The setting in a high school principal's office spotlights student, teacher, and parent viewpoints.

Nine Seniors Chosen as Junior Rotarians by Sterling Club

The Rotary Club of Sterling selected nine senior boys for three three week roles at Elk’s Club meetings this year. The first group included Wayne Andreas Dick Hill and Ernie Hubbart. The second group had Clair Book John Platt and Keith Swartsey. The third group now attending consists of Bob Griesser Bob Jamison and Neal Foulds.
