S. H. S. received great honor as the United States Marine Band played Bandmaster J. J. Richards original march Shield of Liberty during a Sterling Coliseum concert on October 13. The crowded arena hosted two performances, one afternoon and one evening.

Rev. James Uhlinger of Rock Falls Methodist Church led the first of four book reviews in the S. H. S. gym on Tuesday October 31. He discussed Watch For the Dawn by Stuart Cloete, detailing Boer brutality as its ghosts of Halloween night set the mood. The junior class, led by Miss Ludens and A. R. DeVoe, sponsors the series with the next session slated for November 14.
On October 19 and 20 S. H. S. students enjoyed a vacation while teachers attended classes at Morrison. Whiteside County Superintendent Robertson oversaw the institute with the Vera Pearl Kemp String Ensemble performing. Dr. Gellerman of Southern State Teachers College spoke as Dixon hosts hosted a Friday gathering with Senator Josh Lee as principal speaker and Illinois Education Association officers leading a business meeting. Frances Graves Hart of Dixon substituted in the Latin Department for the ailing Miss Echternach.
Rev Uhlinger reviews Vincent Sheean Not Peace but a Sword in the S H S assembly on Tuesday November 14. The work analyzes origins of present day war in Europe and is praised as timely and appropriate for the discussion.
Faculty members recount summer travels and study with travels to Wisconsin Illinois California Colorado and national parks. Roscoe Eades and Brandau share long trips while others visit the World's Fair Yellowstone and Black Hills.

Notables include Elvin Shaw judge in Supreme Court Bernice Brown chemist and Dr Burkholder engineer. Largest S H S class to graduate was 39 with 126 members.
