Teacher builds his own airplane The Quail
Sterling High science instructor Gordon Speer builds a one man aircraft named The Quail by blending a kit with his own plans. He sourced an engine from an old Volkswagen and uses aluminum fiberglass and wood. Speer learned to fly in two years and now mentors a growing home built plane community in Sterling and Rock Falls.
