A SHS note urges every student to maintain school reputation year round. It emphasizes that even summer activities reflect on the school and that all students have a twelve month responsibility, whether working, volunteering, or relaxing away from classes.
Eight members of SHS science and math departments will attend summer schools with NSF fellowships to study physics astronomy earth science chemistry and mathematics. Participants include Speer Sherman Sasek Steeley Schulz DeJarnatt McCoy and others at universities in California Michigan Indiana Illinois Iowa and Colorado. Four English instructors and two physical education staff also plan summer study.
Students at SHS witnessed a fierce campus campaign with Pete Wheeler winning the student council presidency amid bold tactics and loud posters. John Andreas became vice president, Jane Weatherwax elected secretary, and David Wheeler named treasurer amid lively aftereffects and jokes about tactics.
Officers for next year’s National Honor Society were elected on Friday May 20. Jim Wright was elected president Judy Lipka vice president Barb Bogott secretary and Bill Wagner treasurer. Marianne Hess and Fred Davis were chosen as $100 scholarship recipients.
The Spanish Club held its final meeting of the year on May 10 at 7 30 in the library. Parents were invited to attend.
