Sterling and Rock Falls high schools unite for an inter school dance at the coliseum tomorrow night at 8 30. Lynn Lawrence's orchestra will play the out of town show with Bob Swehla as general chairman and Bill Welton as floor show chairman. Tickets are a quarter.

Buy A Jeep Slogan For S. H. S This Month

The War Bond and Stamp sale at Sterling Township High School uses the slogan Buy a Jeep. A jeep costs 1165 dollars with parts bought by war bonds and stamps since September totaling 2498 dollars. The jeep’s body is completed and parts are staged as individual pictures in study hall.

Polomeme Potters Present Ancient Art Show

The Polomeme Potters showcased ancient pottery techniques at 8 H 8 on Monday November 8 at 2 45 PM. They explained clay craft from wheel work to firing ovens reaching high heat, noting pottery strengthens with baking. Cathryn Detweiler introduced the group to the audience and discussed pottery’s wartime uses.

Miss Rompf Joins Township High as Home Ec Assistant

Miss Virginia Rompf, a senior from Northern Illinois State Teachers College at DeKalb, will teach six weeks at Sterling Township High School assisting Mrs. Martin and Miss Franke in homemaking courses. She is active in college and local groups, lives in the community, and will graduate in June with a BS in science and education. When her term ends another DeKalb senior will replace her.

Former Teacher Edna Neff Dies in California Home

Miss Edna Neff, 67, longtime head of Sterling Township High home economics, died suddenly December 1, 1943, at her Santa Monica home. She began the department in 1911, retired in 1941 to move west, and held a lifelong teaching record from Denver to Columbia.

Sterling High School Radio Broadcast On WGN Sunday

Sterling high school will air on a nationwide network over WGN Sunday January 23 at 1 30 PM. A 30 minute program features the school choir a quiz for war stamps and bonds and an honor roll segment with Principal Roscoe Eades speaking on Sterling students and the national war effort.

YM Youth Center opens with fun and activities for area students

High school students from Sterling and Rock Falls gathered at the Y M C A on December 4 for cokes ping pong pool dancing and music. The newly formed Youth Center was planned by Rock Falls and Sterling Hi Tri and Hi V groups with officers Sarah Burkett president Betty Jane Reisner vice president and Tom Hoffman treasurer. Chairmen include Shirley Butler Ray White Marilu Holler Eugene Sands Marcia Bogaard Bettijeanne McNeil and others. The second floor rooms and first floor spaces were cleaned redecorated and refurnished as part of the opening preparations.
