Wyly Beavers of Cheney visited Stilwell Monday and Raleigh Towry of Tahlequah was a Sunday guest. Several local residents traveled to Fort Smith Eureka Springs Joplin Alma and Tulsa for business or visits. The Red Star bus line now connects Stilwell and Tahlequah led by Chas Bassinger, boosting regional travel.

Warden O Weems visits Stilwell and Tahlequah hatcheries

Ray O. Weems of the State Game and Fish Department, Oklahoma City, traveled through Stilwell late last week and Tahlequah to oversee hatchery work. He reports Tahlequah hatcheries are in fine shape and recently received a large donation of broad bass from Dr. Cecil Bryan, candidate for state senator from Adair and Sequoyah counties, welcomed by the department for those ponds.

The April 1928 Standard Sentinel carries a full ownership statement with Sequoyah Publishing Co Inc Stilwell as publisher and editor C Haywood Stilwell, Gould Moore as business manager and owner list including Ray O Weems, Gould Moore, CHAS O FRYE and Mary A Frye. No bonds or mortgages listed. Notary CASA BARR witnessed the sworn statement on April 3 1928.

Clarence Wagoner and his Paris Arkansas family spent the latter part of last week here with relatives and friends. He is taking a much needed rest from the printing business and has been unable to work for two months due to illness but will soon be back in harness. They returned home Sunday.

Stilwell Briefs Include Banker Visit and Hotel Purchase

Chas Hampton of Sallisaw once a local banker visited Stilwell on Monday to attend to business and reconnect with former colleagues. J L Cox, formerly of Stilwell now living in Joplin Mo, plans to move back and take charge of the Stilwell Hotel around May first after purchasing it. The town welcomes Cox and his family back to Stilwell, considered the best town in eastern Oklahoma.

J. E. McDonald and L. Hines of Salisaw were in town Tuesday. They spent the day in Tahlequah before returning. Bowman Busbee has joined the Gleaner staff and is currently at work. The office is undergoing rearrangements to improve working conditions.
