Utah State University researchers have secured a 210000 grant to study probiotics as a possible key to weight loss. The team, including associate professor Robert Ward, will test probiotics on overweight participants to observe microbiome shifts and potential health effects.
Probiotics appear in yogurt and many fermented foods such as sauerkraut miso soup and kefir with probiotics listed as lactobacillus bifidobacterium or streptococcus thermophilus. Health experts say reading labels confirms live cultures and counts from 1 to 100 billion per capsule and explain benefits for digestion immunity and after antibiotics.
