Red Cross nutrition article explains vitamines essential for life. Vitamines A B C and D sourced from milk eggs green vegetables fruits and cod liver oil. Daily intake needed to prevent disease and ensure growth and vigor. Milk emphasized as key due to vitamins and minerals.
Reverend Buster Powell, associate pastor at St. John's Methodist for months, departs for Dallas to study for a Bachelor of Divinity at Southern Methodist University. He earned an A B degree from Southwestern University and helped grow the church’s youth program. He urged members to support the church’s forward plan during his farewell sermon.
Tonight at 8 o clock the Odd Fellows will hold open house for members and friends in their newly fitted home costing about 7000 dollars. All branches of the order helped fit the place with strong input from the Rebekahs. Members are urged to attend and bring a friend.
The Sophomore Class met on Tuesday September 28 1926. Minutes were read and approved. A 25 cent per term dues vote was approved. Committees were appointed. Program included School Loyalty by James Allen Moore Order in the Corridors by Helen Lyles Sportsmanship by Jacinette Jones Duty to Chaperons by Edna Haynie. The class adjourned to meet October 6 1926. Mrs J M Carter returned home after visiting her mother in Corsicana.
The Stamford Exchange Club received its charter from national headquarters Friday night in a formal ceremony led by Dr. McFarlan of the Abilene club. President Henry Andrews, toastmaster, greeted guests as Rev. M. B. Harris gave the invocation. The event featured readings by Doyle Middleton and Anna Patrick Booth, a duet by Alton Brady and Bryan Lewis, and speeches from visitors.
Sunday school pupils in a Stamford St John Methodist Church contest wage a lively battle for the attendance prize. The Reds and Blues trade leads with plans to recruit new members and possibly stage horseshoes contests on the church grounds to boost support.
Progress is rapid on the Witherspoon Produce House and the Western Candy Company bonded warehouse between their facilities and J M Radford's wholesale house. The spacious af fairs will boost business in Stamford and are among the largest projects in years. Mr. Smith builds the Witherspoon block while the Western Candy Company constructs and will run the warehouse.
October observance emphasizes fire danger and prevention methods. Mayor Upshaw and Fire Marshal Meeker urge public education, insurance costs, and home safety measures to reduce fires. They warn fires kill thousands yearly and call for cooperation to remove fire breeding causes.
About twenty members of Stamford High School football squad visited the Rotary Club for a noon luncheon. Coach T. K. R. Tinsley introduced the players and Captain Pete Owens replied for the team. Roy Townsend gave a tractor development talk, and Bob McDonald reported on Abilene meetings. A committee was appointed to draft sympathy resolutions for L. Widney.
Several large chain stores are considering opening branches here and negotiating with property owners for new buildings. Miss Marie Dee has returned home after a several weeks visit in Amarillo.
Hamilton Wright longtime Stamford Chamber of Commerce secretary resigns to become Extension secretary and publicity manager of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce. A meeting is set to appoint temporary secretary FM Locke as Wright’s successor while Wright will promote Abilene prospects and oil interests in the Central West Texas region.
Col. Br. L. Penick displayed honey samples to friends in town from his Clear Fork ranch. He said about 1,000 pounds of honey would be produced this season at Liles Lodge grounds.
Dr J W Hunt president of Mc Murray College Abilene will address the Men's Brotherhood class of St John s Methodist Sunday school in the church basement and will preach at the 11 o clock service. The Kolonial Kard Klub meets at 3 30 p m Thursday at Mrs Louis Dial s home.
Stamford Bulldogs battled Cleee Lobees to a close finish in a game marked by hard defense and multiple lineups. Captain Owens did not start, Rue and Payne stood out at back and end, with Hager and Kilpatrick anchoring the line as Stamford fought to the final whistle.
The directors of T. T. 7 plan a forthcoming meeting at Stamford to discuss abeyance pend and pending highway projects. President R. L. Pentel leads efforts with T. A from Albany to Coast and Col. RB. Lee of Clacots noted among attendees as state road interests rise.
Frank M. Locke, manager of the ims Oil Company, who had been ill with fever for ten days, was reported considerably improved Tuesday.
