Stamford city council after a lengthy hearing approved changing East Hamilton residential zoning to a non conforming use to permit an Allsup's Convenience Store. Citizens living nearby opposed citing noise, 24 hour operation, and property value concerns. The 3 1 vote included Mayor Blackburn and supporters Barnett and Astin with Horton voting no.

Stamford Chamber honors two retired teachers at awards banquet
Two longtime educators in Stamford were named Outstanding Man and Woman of the Year at a Stamford Chamber of Commerce banquet. Grady Baldwin, a Knox City County native and Lion of the Year in 1967, and Mrs Homer J. Merriott, a former teacher with poles across Oklahoma and Alaska, received the honors. The event, at Cliff House, drew over 130 attendees including local officials, directors, and out‑of‑town guests from Abilene and Fort Worth.
