Stamford Bulldogs Open Season With 24 Point Victory
The Stamford Bulldogs defeated the Roby Lions 24 to 0 on the Bulldog field last Friday night in the season opener. Boots Rogers scored the first two touchdowns from the two yard line, Willie Raphelt and Bob Lee added two more. Raphelt’s third quarter TD came after blocking a punt and returning it 20 yards. Lee broke a long run from the 18 for the final score as Stamford’s line blocked well though no extra points were converted. Lions briefly threatened with a punt and passing, but Stamford held firm. Royce Lusk captained the team with 8S, J. Roberts co captain. Stamford had 19 first downs to Roby’s 0, and gained 225 rushing yards to Roby’s 87. End scores listed, officials noted.

Safety Meetings Held in Stamford by Two Railway Groups
Safety meetings for MRT railway and Wichita Valley railway employees occurred in Stamford over the past week. About 20 Stamford Hamlin and Lueders workers attended the MKT station office gathering led by W. W. Wackler. C Metcalf and C I Evans attended. At Wichita Valley office, F Bagley presided with about 20 employees from various departments present. Chas Corley visited both meetings stressing safe road and highway crossings and safety signs.

Stamford gins handled 961 bales of cotton in the past week to noon Thursday, totaling 1885 bales this season. A light Tuesday shower slowed picking briefly, then gins caught up as arrivals surged Wednesday and Thursday, with cotton selling at 15.75 cents.

Fall Festival Opening Postponed to October 8
The second annual fall festival date is moved from October 1 to Wednesday October 8 due to October 1 being a Jewish holiday. Plans continue with hopes of greater success than last year as entry blanks appear in the paper and at the Chamber of Commerce. More than 30 contestants entered last year.

Thirty seven cadets to graduate at Stamford field this week
Thirty seven aviation cadets form the class graduating at Stamford Arledge field completing primary training. They will report at Randolph Field September 30 to begin basic training. A new class of 90 cadets, the largest at Stamford, is expected next week with classes starting October 4.
