Stamford Story to Be Filmed at Grand Theatre

Sanford Hodge of the Grand Theatre says Mel Barker will shoot a three minute color talking picture titled The Stamford Story in Stamford. Filming lasts about two weeks with downtown scenes and civic clubs, the high school band and football team featured. Stamford children will audition for roles as the film debuts at the Grand Theatre before broader release.

Rainfall totals rise in Stamford early this week

Measurable rain fell on Stamford on two days early this week totaling 1.54 inches over the last two weeks. One day brought 0.14 inches and the next 0.45 inches, following a trace on Saturday. Yearly rainfall reaches 15.71 inches.

Christmas Opening Set In Stamford for Nov 27

Friday November 27 marks the Stamford Christmas shopping season start with Santa in a street parade. The Stamford High School Band led by W F E Mayes will head the caravan with floats and decorated bicycles. Prizes total 300 for floats and bicycle prizes total 25. Chamber of Commerce committee reports new Square decorations and plans a 75 cent front-foot merchant assessment to cover season costs.

City to Submit Public Housing Plan for HHFA Approval

Stamford plans to submit a public housing expansion to the Housing and Home Finance Administration seeking federal aid. The program would add 24 units to Heritage Homes, totaling 60 elder housing units built since 1960, with 20 one-bedroom and 4 two-bedroom units. The council also hired Candley Morphew Co. for the 1964 city audit.

Protest Aims At Anson Highway Office Closure

The Stamford Chamber of Commerce joined Anson and Jones County officials in protesting the Texas Highway Department’s plan to close the resident engineer office in Anson. Five Stamford families and seven Anson families are affected. The office’s monthly payroll of about 6500 includes roughly 2500 in Stamford. The Sweetwater office is also slated for closing. District Engineer Jake Roberts says closures follow district work winding down, with I 20 projects and farm to market roads cited.

Steel Erection Underway At Stamford Auditorium

First steel for the new Stam ford High School auditorium was set Tuesday with rapid progress planned. Steel fabricated in Oklahoma arrived late, brickwork is on hand, walls expected to rise soon weather permitting. Same ASC Committee Will Serve New Term

The incumbent ASC County Committee was reelected at the county convention held in the county ASC office on Sept. 18. Members are J. Noel Weaver, chairman. A. Darwin Hill, vice chairman. John E. Nix, third regular member. The tenure begins Oct. 1 for one year. The committee oversees farm program decisions, price support, and conservation, balancing public and individual interests with state and federal agencies.
